Thanks Rod, while searching I found the thread where you asked the question. Come on Dan, help us out. |

You can run the washers or not. I have seen no performance/mileage difference whatsoever, except that your drool tubes might last longer w/o the washers due to wear on the aluminum. Dan certainly distributes a huge volume of useful advice, which we are all grateful for. Certainly the plug part numbers and heat range info is useful. However, I do not believe Dan has developed or built performance Slant 6s or has likely been down a dragstrip. This is my impression and I don't know for sure. Personally, I take his performance advice with some caution. He can feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Best, Lou |

No performance/mileage difference has ever been claimed. Please go read the thread with factory info on why '60-'62 heads run the washers and '63+ heads don't.Quote: I do not believe Dan has developed or built performance Slant 6s
True.Quote: or has likely been down a dragstrip
False. And clarifying muddled information on spark plug heat ranges is not really "performance advice". |

Quote: What are the Aussie Slant 6 heads classed as.........pre-'63?? I know we had Slants up till '69, but are ours all the same casting.
Donno. I can look in my VE-VF FSM next time I'm at the office. The casting number didn't change up here until '68, either; the spark plug seat change was made as a running change. Quote: I'm asking because it seems everyone "down under" leaves the ring washers on their plugs.
Everyone up here does so, too, because the factory advice to remove the washers is no longer common knowledge.

False. And clarifying muddled information on spark plug heat ranges is not really "performance advice". I merely stated that on a Preformance slant engine (which His is) the use of extended tip spark plugs is " at least under question and/or a bad idea due to Heat Build-up" not heat range of the plug.
