Yeah the front and rear studs were buggers for sure. Thanks for the tip on the gasket resource Cuda. Looks like I'll be needing one since after we took it for a test drive the next core plug forward had a slight leak. Also under the manifold vert piping :x I can see this being a regular thing in my future....

Looks like the age old rule of fixing a coolant leak boosts up the pressure so that something else springs a leak.

One thing concerned me though. We took a test drive and then rested shortly and the car acted like it was flooded. But started eventually. Did I mess something up in the carb with all this josteling?

I'm great at taking apart and putting back together. Tuning and troubleshooting now that's quite another thing.

Old cars act funny as I am sure you know. Almost every carbureted car I have owned acts like it is flooded a bit after shutdown. The key to getting it started is to press the accelerator down a bit to get more air in.

If that doesnt work and it wont start, stomp it to the floor and give 'er some cranks, I bet she'll fire up.

Far as a regular thing, you will become better with practice obviously, so you should be able to have that manifold stack on/off in no time soon enough!

I am just glad to hear that it is on the road!

If you have not done so already, I would get a proper dipstick in there...

Yeah Thor we've been gassing it to start. And everything seems to be back in order. I need to get a manifold gasket though since I didn't replace it last time. Those Aussie ones look nice, but shipping must be a bear. I'd like to clean everything out too next time.

Haven't found a new dipstick yet. Still probing ebay for that. :?
