Popcorn time
I'm not familier with Calif smog rules but the super six setup was available on Aspens/Volares etc starting in 1977(article on Home page) so to my thinking that wouldn't be a "modifcation" but a factory option, yes? Banters rig is a 77 so it would have been available for his car.Comments?

Don't know for a fact, but I understand, that the super six was not available in Calf, due to emissions problems.

I was worried about this, but hoped that by ignoring the issue, it wouldnt become one! :P

The lady I got it from definitely had it in california, but I am not sure where it was purchased. How can I tell? Would posting the stamped tags help?

I am not completely off the super six idea yet.. but just for fodder, what kind of smog-OK mods could I do to give the engine a few more horses and better mileage? I really only use my car for cruising on the weekends, and was looking for a slight hop up... maybe some higher gears in the rear?

Thanks all!

Again not sure of Calif rules/regulations but,in Washington we can register a rig as Collector Vehicle which exempts it from smog and such. Our rules state that said vehicle is to be used in parades, car shows, cruises etc.,or on way to or from such events.Since your's is basically a weekend cruiser maybe check with your DMV to see if thats an opption. Also check with them on back tracing the title/registration,there must be a way to find out where it was first sold,by whom and to whom.I'm sure someone here will know how to go about that.
Since your car is 32 years old do we know for a fact that it has to be smogged? Dang Calif is tuff if thats true

In CA, unfortunately, most 1974 and newer cars must be smogged every other year:

Will the engine perform weakly/badly if I increase the intake and wait a week or two before switching to dutra duals and a bigger pipe? I guess I'm asking if I should do intake and exhaust at the same time...
Like Ted said, no, it won't hurt performance to do the Super Six upgrade without the Dutra exhaust. But as you noticed, the intake and exhaust are "comingled", and yes, it's much less work to do the super six and Dutra exhaust at the same time.

The downside is that you don't get to see the benefit of each mod individually. The upside is it's a bigger boost in performance/economy. When I did my Super Six/Dutra duals upgrades together, it made a night and day difference. Just my $.02...
