Slant Six Forum :: Billet Crossflow cylinder head

Not trying to throw any stones here, but 6 years ago he estimated $3500. That cost today may be $4500 or more. That estimate if it is like any others was probably low. Lou had 20 ready to buy at $2500. That number likely would drop to half that if the price was $3500, and probably drop to 5 if it was $4500 You just can't do this cheap.

I just don't see a market to anyone but a serious, big buck racer in that price range. I got less than $2000 in my whole engine build to run 13's. I can't see me ever buying a $4500 head. I see a handful being sold at best.

Well Rick, I thought that with something that over the top sitting in front of everyone to see and touch it would have generated more interest than it did, especially in front of a bunch of racers. Guess everyone was more interested in chips and whatever else was more important. Almost felt like it was a waste time bringing it. So, to answer your question about when it will start production, at this rate of interest, probably not anytime soon.

I wish the home page of this site read: Welcome to slantsix.org there will never be an aluminum head for the slant,ever...ever. The only way to have buyers would be to make it like a stock replacement head, with the larger valves,and say 190-200 cfm with some meat for improvement.At that, you might have 5 buyers, I doubt any more than 10. The big racers wouldn't bother with this head, it would only be a hanfull of us die hards,and maybe 1 or 2 "more money than brains,i'm paying someone to restore my slant six xxxx,use the best parts possible".

Well, that's the head I was asking Rick if he remembered me taking to the Slant banquet. I have the patterns and cores for a race Chevy head that could be easily modded to create a Slant head. Probably wouldn't be that expensive to cast and machine.

It will always boil down to how much stock, or readily available bolt on parts will work with the new aluminum head, and cost. I have looked and marveled at a real factory aluminum head, just for weight savings alone. If one was to be coming down the pike, I can say that my credit card would be getting beat up. Andrew/Kidd

I really don't feel cross flow gets you much benefit on a slant. Because of the wide bore centers there is enough room on the cylinder head port face for whatever ports we could desire. Going exotic with 4-valves or even a 2-valve hemi drives the installed cost way, way up. If you want to sell heads they need to use a minimum of special equipment.

Scott, What we probably should have done was had a "tech time" and allowed you to speak to the whole group at once. That way everyone could have heard what you had to offer the group. Any way you look at it it is still a pretty small group. It will probably have to be a labor of love for sure. Rick

While I am dreaming about this stuff, I can't help but wonder if it would be feasible to have fuel injector bungs located on the head somehow. Please forgive my ignorance on details needed to make this happen. Just asking... The slant racers that I have met form a broad spectrum of backgrounds. Getting a majority of them to agree on theoreticals are difficult. However, like it has been posted prior, the best selling head will be one that is the most "universal" to suit a wide variety of uses. I was most impressed with your head and ideas at the banquet. I apologize for not being more forthcoming to you about it. The racers (that I know) tend to like to analyze new stuff in small groups or pairs and form opinions. They don't want to risk offending people too easily. Also, there are a lot of east coast racers that do not frequent this forum on a regular basis. Brian
