Also, Zorg, you should really get a vacuum gauge. Your finger can give you a "yes-no" answer for strong vacuum, but to quantify how much vacuum you have or sense weak vacuum you need to get a gauge. They are a VERY useful tool. |

Thanks Reed, great shots! I didn't know this was made available for the SL6. Very nice set up! It would be interesting to know what years they made this available. |

Ted, There was a hold down like that on a dizzy I pulled from a 78 volare wagon for a spare. I didn't even think of using it until I read this post...now where did I put that stuff?...probably hiding with Dan's distributor wrench |

Great pics Reed! This is what I needed to see. I recently got my rebuilt/upgraded dist from D.I. (Thanks Rob!), and I noticed that it needs the "ring" that bolts to the dist. I also need the o-ring that goes under the plate. I may just use the plate from my dist that's in there now. |

Okay fellas, so in addition to the o-ring on the dist shaft, there is also a gasket that goes under the "plate" that is attached to the dist? I tried to look one up, but I couldn't find a listing for a distributor gasket for a slant six. Anybody have a part number? |

The o-ring under the plate is the one I was referring to. I don't have a part number, but Harbor Freight has gobs of Viton o-rings cheap. They sell boxes with many different sizes. I found that out last winter when the Chinese made pot-metal fuel shutoff valve on my Harbor Freight generator spring a leak. I know Harbor Freight merchandise is largely Chinese poo, but it is just sooooo cheap. And there is an outlet store about a mile from my house. I can't help it, I am like a crack addict for tools.... |

I suppose I used the wrong technichal terms earlier. I am running the vacuum advance pod on the distributor, but not the vacuum amplifier thingimajogger that mounts between the valve cover and the air cleaner... Reed, thanks for the good photo series on distributor hold downs. And a vacuum gage will be the next impliment I aquire. |

Ah. The thingamajogger is the vacuum AMPLIFIER for the EGR system. If you have disabled the EGR valve then you can remove that unsightly mess. Be sure to also bypass the OSAC valve. Happy to help with the pics. |
