Thanks so much. When I owned my slant six in Santa Cruz and then Livermore, California I ran it with the Offy and Clifford Tri-Y. :roll:

I did use the thermostatic hot air tube on the 429 Cobra Jet air cleaner horn. Fit reel purty.

:lol:

I did trot out the original setup for the smog check. As I recall it met new car specs at idle.


You guys should read about the development travails of the Corvair in mountain driving. Gives you an insight into why these devices are around.

Edit: 6000 rpms --- 6000 rpms :wink: :lol:

I don't think you will learn too much from Corvairs, unfortunately. I do think you should analyze what is happening to your own personal engine when it fails instead of waiting a couple years for someone else to do it for you. Touché. Some fish do bite. :lol:

dose anybody know if a replacement bimetallic spring is available from anywhere mine doesn't turn as the engine warms up

The bimetallic spring was included in the heat riser repair kit, but that kit is no longer available. If yours is the round-disc type and it turns counterclockwise freely but comes to a definite stop, then springs back clockwise when you release it, you don't need a new bimetallic spring.

Today, I tested the operation of the MHCV, and sure enough, when the engine was first started, the valve would move counterclockwise 1/2" when the engine was revved. So then I drove it, engine ran fine, but the throttle bog was still there. After driving for 45 minutes, the bog was still there. I figure that's plenty of time to get the manifold heated.

When I parked, I noticed that the MHCV was not moving at all. The heat must have expanded it too tight. A few hours later, it was free again. Is that normal?

Anyhow, on to the next thing for the accell bog. At least this is working now.
