(procedure specified in the FSM) Where is this please?? The other day when I let the car idle it sounded great but today I took it for a cruise around the block and it changed by the time I got back home. The idle became rougher and under throttle leaving a stop light it missed. Rick |

Get a vacuum gauge, plug on to manifold. Set idle speed down to about 550 RPM and turn the mixture screw till you get the highest reading. |

The exact procedure varies from year to year, but basically you begin with the engine warmed up and idling at normal idle speed. Then you back the idle mixture screw out a couple of turns, let the idle speed stablize and adjust the idle rpm if necessary. Then turn the adjustment in 1/4 turn, wait 10 - 15 seconds and repeat. You stop when the idle begins to stumble and doesn't recover after a short pause, back out 1/4 turn then fine tune it from there for best idle. Later models with emission controls may have a plastic cap over the adjustment screw, that may be removed. Some models specify that after achieving "lean best idle" that you turn the screw in until the idle speed drops by 20 RPM or so. Again the FSM ( Factory Service Manual ) is the authoritative source for specifications and procedures. |

Well...I think I have taken care of all the issues. I replaced the plugs today with Autolite Platnium(sp?) and the car idles so smooth. Took it for a little drive and it ran great! Just barely touch the starter and it fires right up. The only other issue that I needed to deal with is how the exhaust was ran under the crossmember. Changed the location of the bracket and give it plenty of room... Sounds great and runs awesome! Rick |
