Quote: ok, I looked through the list of manuals posted above....found the 1963 Plymouth Valiant Service Manual for $55 (part number 81-570-3067), which I am 100% sure I am going to need but is there any reason to get any of the other books listed on the moparmanuals site? I see a 1963 master parts book for $85, 62-65 production option codes book, and a parts and casting number book.
You don't need the parts and casting number book or the production option codes book. The master parts book is very helpful because it contains exploded views of every part of the car.

Doc, thanks for the link. Dan, thank you very much for the advice on the manuals, just wanted to be sure before I wasted any unnecessary cash. As for what I want the car to "do", I am looking for a fun driver with a bunch of lower end torque...definitely past the age of street racing so I'd just like something that I can cruise around in with my wife and have some fun in the process (which I'm sure could easily be done with no mods at all, but what fun is that). Since I currently drive a Ram 1500 with a Hemi, I enjoy the "kick in the pants", so to speak, that I can get out of it every so often when needed/wanted. I'd love to have that same ability with this motor, along with a nice rumble/deep toned exhaust setup. Like I said before, the exhaust and motor are my music when I drive. Most of my driving would be around town so the more response I can get out of the 0-3000 rpm range would be the best, not really too concerned with highway driving since I won't be doing a whole lot of that. Again I'm new to the whole carburated engine setup, and to the slant 6 so I'm not 100% sure what to expect, or even what I "want" from it ultimately besides being a fun car with a great sound. Oh, and by the way, I'm still waiting to find out what cam/pistons were put into this thing when it was re-built, I have a feeling I will never get the info. |

Once you have the vehicle, run a compression check and give us the cranking psi numbers, that will give us some clues. DD |

Thanks Olaf. My buddy's uncle owns an engine shop (he professionally drag races, and has designed his own custom valves) so once I get the car I'm going to take it over there and get some tests done on it and see if he can do some mods for me...also see if he can figure out what cams and pistons are in it if the info doesn't come from the previous owner. |

Now that's the kind of buddy to have! ![]() It sounds like you've got things taken care of where your slant is concerned. Have fun! ![]() |

It will definitely be fun, and a learning experience to boot. Only problem with my buddy's uncle is he's a Chevy guy...I'm just hoping he's got some knowledge of the slants, if not, he better learn ![]() |
