Sam,

Yep, my other cars are 440 cars. The 69 Chrysler 300 is a rocket with the 375 HP 440. Drives super nice and feels light on it's feet.....more like a sports car.
My wife's car is a 72 Imperial, like new, and all leather seats, super nice ride.......a limo....

My son has a 96 Camaro, a 82 Camaro, both race cars, an 84 Trans Am and a 69 Chev Truck. We used to race his truck at SIR for years.

I am finally getting the SL6 in my Dart to feel more like the 440 in the 69 Chrysler 300. The Dart is pretty spunky with the E254 cam.........

On my Dart wiring I have a switch that arms the system. It actually activates the relay switching on the battery power from inside the car. I have a light on it too so I know it's armed. On hot days I leave it armed for days.....in the winter I turn it off when I get home.
I also have a manual over ride switch so I can turn on the fans anytime.
So under the dash are the arming switch, a light and a over ride switch in a neat switch cluster.

If you don't want to freak out your wife.....turn off the arming switch.

It's too bad your hood scoops don't let more warm air out. I was thinking of installing the larger center scoop found on 74 on up Demons and Dusters to let the hot air out after shut down.........

I think a rearward facing scoop actually does more good. I am looking into changing back to the metal hood some day, and installing the kind of hood vents/holes that the turbo K cars had. I threw away a pair of those recently. Isn't that always the way? I am sure there are other options out there though.

Nice stable of cars.

Sam

Don't make it any harder than you have to......
That is definitely my philosophy! 8)

Thanks again for posting that Ted. When I get some of the other projects out of the way, I will be following your design.

Is there any real point to having your fan on after shutoff if your engine isn't cycling the fluids?

As long as the engine's coolant is hot enough to leave the thermostat open, there will be some circuation even if the water pump is not running. The water pump is not sealing up the water channels, there is plenty clearance around the pump vanes, a better description for the water pump would be 'coolant circulation helping device'.

Post subject:  Electric fan and aluminum carb heat deflector combination

bthieson,

Convection plays a big part in cooling on the SL6.

On these 90 to 100 degree days it makes a huge difference. After shut down, I have had the stat stay open and the fan run for 15 minutes or so then cycle off for awhile, then when the heat builds back up especially on hot pavement it will kick back on the stat being open again and it cool everything down. No vapor locking or gas boiling in the carb.

After shopping for an hour or so hot starts are immediate. No more cranking or stinky gas odors.......
If I open the hood to check the carb it will be luke warm. The aluminum heat deflector also acts like a heat sink helping wick the heat away and having the fan blowing on it cools everything down around the carb instead of baking the carb like the stock configuration does.......
