There's a lot of variation. The only way to know is to CC it. CJ |

Do it your self.......do a search on how to CC the head. It is very simple and kind of fun. |

The last time I CC'd my head in June, it took less than 15 minutes from setting it on the bench to all dried out, misted with WD-40 to displace any remaining water, and ready to go back on the car.. Perhaps I've accomplished this evolution a few times now. CJ |

so you know my secrets, I haven't removed the head or pulled the engine yet. Then I would need to clean the garage, then search the garage for my cc kit, then borrow alcohol and food coloring when the wife isn't looking. See it is a time consuming operation |

I know all about that sneaking around the corner while Linda tries to figure out what mayhem I'm up to! The head comes off nicely while leaving the engine in the car. Well, once you remove the stack and various other bits. I think 'Zilla has it down to 20 minutes to pull or stab a motor now. See? Nitrous gives you lots of practice! CJ |

| Post subject: | compression ratio |
I want this engine to run on 87 octane gas so what is the upper limit of compression ratio 8.5:1or 9:1 ? Which cam would you guys recommend ? Remember it's going to be a daily driver for my son. All he wants is a little rumpity rump like my Big Block car. |

I used 9.5 for the compression and the E254 cam profile and advanced it 4 degrees. Read the engine build matrix for "Torque and Mileage". This is one of Doc's recipe's. Look on the cam buy link for the Erson profiles. It is for torque and mileage. |

We developed some nice "street" RDP (Reverse, Dual Pattern) cams with Erson a while back so you may want to look at those. Both these cams use the old Mopar Performance 244 exhaust lobe and then a couple of Erson's "RV" lobes on the Intake side. (The RV-10 & RV-15) Basically, these are good cams for lower compression ratio, pump gas street builds were you want a good idle and off-idle, with strong mid-range power. The RV-10 / 295 works well with the factory 8 to one CR and the RV-15 / 295 is best used with 9 to 1 or more CR. Use the Intake valve close info. on the linked sheets to calculate your exact DCR. thanks Doc but one more question are you using the wiseco /6 pistons for this type of build, stock type pistons of the wiseco 2.0 liter pistons and the 198,K1 or stock 225 rods |

For a 9 to 1 CR street engine, the standard 225 cast piston and 6.700 long con rod is fine... just use a good quality cast piston. When I build long rod SL6 engines, I usually add more compression and cam. DD |
