Ok so now that i have a bunch of stuff to do...lol I was wondering (maybe its already been answered but im still ignorant) What is this lean burn system i hear about?

Lean-burn, a.k.a. spark control computer a.k.a. electronic spark control. An early computerized fuel and spark control system Chrysler first started using in the late 70s and used until the late 80s. Notoriously failure prone, even when the vehicles were brand new.

That is the box on the air cleaner (computer) and the distributer has 2 sets of wires, the electronic distributer has only 1 set of wires (that is the one you will want to do the HEI conversion)

No. But you will need a vacuum line for the vacuum advance on the distributor.

In the short term, get a handheld vacuum pump and check if the transducer on the computer holds a vacuum (alternatively, get a section of hose, put it over the nipple, and suck to see if the transducer holds a vacuum). If it does, just hook the hose up to the transducer and a nipple on the carb that always has a vacuum signal.

I would get the choke straightened out and try putting a hose on the computer before I worried about an HEI swap.

You have quite a learning curve, diving in cold to HEI swaps, de-leanburning an engine, and cleaning up someone else's mess under the hood. I strongly recommend you get a factory service manual for your truck and try to get it running right in stock form before you do any modifications. That way you have (a) a well written troubleshooting guide to help you diagnose and correct your problems and (b) you will have a good baseline to start from when you do start modifying.

I just realized I never answered your questions about the wires on the carb. Neither the bowl vent valve nor the idle stop solenoid/switch needs to be hooked up and working for the truck to run fine. If the wires that go to those items aren't hooked to anything, don't sweat it.

I don't know what other electrical problems you have when you say the electrical is touch and go. What are the symptoms?

The other electrical issues are the tail lights dont always work and the in cab guages and lights have issues...I will pick up that manual asap

I have been very busy with work i havent gotten to do too much but today a friend of is coming over to help me out.... He is well versed in the auto business so hopefully we will straighten out all of the problems.
