Yup. Got the four pin from Napa. Absolutely every car I looked at in the salvage yard had the seven pin. I'm going to leave the lone wire disconnected and see if it works. The hurdle right now is getting the carb mounting worked out. Thanks for all the help!

If you need a bigger/higher resolution copy of the wiring diagram, send me a PM with your e-mail and I can get it for you.

Thanks Reed. I'll shoot you a PM.

I got everything hooked up Saturday and tried starting it, but no luck. It cranks, but won't start. I'll find some more time some evening this week to sneak back over there. I'll read through the discussion thread and other HEI threads to get some ideas of what I'm missing.

I'll start by adding a separate ground wire.

I left the hot wire to the oil sending unit off because I had to remove the electric choke and didn't see any other use for the wiring. There is a separate wire going to another oil sending unit that goes into the bulkhead.

I'm still wondering about that one lone wire...

Some trucks and vans in the mid 80s had both an oil pressure idiot light and an oil pressure gauge. The wiring is there for both.

Yup, this one has two sending units at the back of the engine.

One sending unit has a wire that I still have hooked up going into the main harness.

The other sending unit with the three wires (hot, electric choke and one that was not connected to anything) is the one that is no longer connected.

I really need to swing by there on my way home this evening. It's been raining here all day and the garage I have the truck in has a roof leak!

(It has the plumbing for a wood burning stove that needs to be re-sealed. I meant to do that a couple weeks ago (when it WASN'T raining   ))

I stopped by the garage last night for about 20 minutes...

I added a ground wire to the HEI module. Still no spark. I guess I'll have to push the truck out of the garage to make room for all the schtuff that's gonna fill it up.

I hate being so technically/mechanically challenged.

Ill be home next week and will give you a text. I can go out and give you a wire by wire play of my truck (which should be the same).

Thanks Frank, but hopefully next week you'll be busy with your new family! :D

If I haven't gotten it figured out by then and you do find some time to sneak out to the garage I'll take you up on that though.

Have you tried swapping the wires that go to the distributor? They only work one way, and it is very easy to attach the wires to the wrong terminals on the HEI unit. Swap the wire placement on the terminals and see if it works.

I'll give it a try. I am getting no spark at all out of the new Master Blaster 2 coil... :? I will try to sneak by there again today on the way home.

( :?: Quiz: In what movie is the name "Master Blaster" used, and for whom? :?: )

That's easy. Mad Max Beyond Thunder Dome.

Image

MasterBlaster is "A big guy giving a little guy a piggyback." "They are a unit."

The little guy is Master. He runs Barter Town. He is a vertically challenged fellow who is a master at the process of refining pig poo ("NOT SH*T! Energy!") into electricity through the capture and use of methane.

Blaster is a big burly guy who is mentally handicapped ("He's the ballcracker! Death on foot!" "He can beat most men with his breath.")

Together, they make up "MasterBlaster." Master is the brains, Blaster is the body. Aunty Entity wants to keep the brian but dump the body in a power play to control Barter Town.

The Mad Max series of films are probably my favorite series of movies, right after the original Godzilla series. They are supposedly making a fourth installment with Hugh Jackman playing the role of Max. Personally, I don't think Jackman is scruffy enough to pull it off. Even though I usually don't like him, I think Russell Crowe would have been a better choice for the role of Max.

"Whatever happened to two?"

Have you checked that you are getting the full 12 volts at the coil and at the HEI unit?

check to see that you have the relay wired in correctly, can you get a test lamp to light on the power out relay terminal when the key is on start?
