A 170 gets to race at a lighter weight than a 225. So your sub 2350 lb 170 car runs as a B car at the A weight. |

It doest matter to me,but that means a 2355 lb 170 goes into the c class?Thats close to a half second advantage just in weight compared to a car close to the lower end of the c class weight with a 225.What about the 198???Does that play with the 170s or the 225?Got me thinking and curious.Mark |

Rick, There is no distinction between a 170 and 225 in these classes. Your car can set a record in the class that its weight falls in. Later edit: Oops, I can see I was mistaken about this - sorry! Lou |

The two things I take away from this thread so far: 1. Cars running the 170(only) get a break to help them overcome their cubic inch disadvantage by competing in the next heavier weight class. 2. A car can only set a record in the weight class that it is in when it makes that record run. However, there is nothing keeping that same car from dropping/gaining weight to set another record in a different weight class. Seymour and a couple others have done this. I would propose that records do not expire after a set time. I feel that we would lose an important part or our "history" if records were to expire. I also think that 1/8th mile records should count if they are run as part of a 1/4 mile pass. |

I looked back at the record setting rules to see what all the confusion is about. What is says is that if you run the low deck engine you are classified into the next heavier class for record setting purposes, this does not mean you have to add weight to your car. A 2350# car with a 170 gets to try to set records in the same class as a 2700# car with a 225. The example in the rules makes that quite clear. This was an arbitrary rule based on the cars running at that time, Maybe you want to classify cars on a weight to cubic inch basis instead like the NHRA does. I would only ask that you maintain some of the old 6 cylinder gas and modified production weight breaks so we can see how were are doing against those old racers like Cotton Perry and Glen Self. |

I think the new weight classes are great news. I also like keeping the records divided the same as the other classes. Is the car weight calculated with or without the driver? |

With the driver IIRC.I remember Seymour clarifying that for me a couple years ago when I was all fired up about building a car that could be capable of setting a record... I've come back to reality now. |

Weight is with driver, yes. I am not in favor of a break for 198s, since I don't know of any competing, and have never seen one run a dragstrip pass. I did not even know about the low deck thing, and that might motivate me to put a low deck motor together in a 2400 lb car... Yes, it sounds like Mark (or Doc) might beat me to it, but what's new. Is it possible that Wayne's World could have gotten a C/gas record? Hasn't he run lower than Mike's 12.08 with his 170 car?? Lou |

Lou One thing you really need to be aware of when adding classes and doing weight tricks with cubic inches in a weight only class, soon you will have everyone wanting a break for their particular combination and possibly car color. |

I've got a 198 with a stroked 225 crank. That counts doesn't it? I think Pink cars should be barred from competition unless the driver is really cute. Like Mark. Last I heard, Waynes World ran a best 12.98 CJ |

More classes sound great. More classes = more national record holders = more happy racers. It worked for AHRA in the past. Keep the old records to give the new guys something to shoot for. If you get rid of the old records I won't have anything to talk about. |
