So welding a flange to the stock exhaust manifold is not a good idea? Or (with NO disrespect to Wayne) was it done poorly? I liked the look of the mount, but could it have been further supported? This is going to be my first turbo build (as I guess is obvious) and the actual mounting of parts is a concern. ________ LITTLESWEETY |

welding low quality cast such as the prone to crack slant manifold is not a good idea, it will crack .you'd be better off bolting on an elbow off of the original flange to a remote mounted turbo than welding a flange derectly to the manifold for the turbo |

Okay, that makes sense as well. Can any of you who responded show me images of how your turbos are mounted? ________ WildCATblond |

A pair of the Dutra exhaust manifolds with a T connection would also be a good choice. I have thought on this for a long time. I would also use TBI in a draw thru setup. Simple to build and the TBI should fix any preconceived problems with carburetors. Especially if you use a Megasquirt and control the ignition also. |

I opted for a small turbo, an IHI from a turbo coupe. I fabbed an adapter out of a stainless elbow and welded a bracket to my motor mount, but I have a lot more room under the hood than guys with newer cars. This turbo pulls to 5000 RPM, I would have considered 4200 a success. I just want a fun car with all the grunt on the bottom. If you pick a popular turbo, flanges to make your down pipe and adapter are a dime a dozen, If you pick a strange one (like mine) you've got to make your own. My advice? Listen to everyone. Then make choices that you can live with not fight with. |
