Since we're talking hypothetical there are three basic considerations: drawbar pull: consider vehicle weight, gearing, torque, and horsepower. amount of towed weight supported by tow vehicle: consider springs, tires, and frame strength. stopping ability: consider CGVW, tow vehicle weight, brakes, speed from which stopping is needed, and frequency of stop required. FWIW: The owners' manual recommended a CGVW not to exceed 3500 lbs for a 73 Dart. The old axiom, "Power without control is nothing." is true. Once towed a G-III (38,000 # empty) with a 12 hp Kubota tractor. It was a lot easier to get going than to stop. It is a helpless feeling to have the brakes matted and be pushed along by a $2.2M aircraft. Thankfully, I was taking it OUT of the hanger. |
