Quote: Actually if I was you I would toss that crappy Stomberg and get a 'real' carb, by which I mean pretty much any other 2bbl. I hated the one on my D200 and just recently tossed it. Best thing I ever did for driveability.
H'm. I disagree with you. A fair number of other people seem to disagree with you, too; see here and here and here. Your bad experience with one Stromberg carburetor doesn't mean they're junk, it means yours was abused, neglected, maladjusted, worn out, or otherwise out of whack.

Different strokes, but I have not heard much good about them. One strike against them is that the newest one was built in 1968 or so, which means that even the best ones have been messed with more than once. Mine had been rebushed and worked about as well as a Stromberg could, It just had a flat spot that would never tune out. When there are newer, better and possibly cheaper options I don't know why one would mess with it unless you wanted to go for originality, which this case is not. |

I still disagree with you. If you had driveability problems and think Strombergs are junk, yours wasn't working correctly. When in proper repair and tune, they run very well.
