You said it "turns over"... if so, it's not the battery cables or contact(s)
Check for spark.
Check for fuel.
After that, it's timing and/or compression.
Is the distributor rotor still turning while you crank the engine?
(Stripped distributor gear?)

Well, it started when you got home so i doubt the dist is stripped, probably just flooded it did you pump it before you tryed to start it the first time before work that day? If you didn't flood it check your ign plastics connector under the steering column mine had a bad connection and would turn forever and never ignite, but when i pushed it together real hard the car would run, so i cut it out and hard wired the wires color to color never had a problem since with that nonsense.

If you eliminate one possible cause, your closer to finding the root problem. I usually start with the free, just labor, and go from there, price...lowest to highest. Especially if I don't know when, if ever, it was replaced. Electrical issues is my Krypton. I usually hire it done if I get too much in a pickle. hope you figure it out soon.
