I used the Devcon 2 part epoxy. Make sure the surface it contacts is as rough as possible, to get a good "bite".

Devcon 2 part is quite something.

35 years ago I helped repair a 300PSI 1" steel airline with Devcon and cotton bandaging. It was the air supply line for the bow door on a large Ferry.

Derek the Newcastle 2nd engineer to Sandy the Oiler (busy applying Devcon to miles of cotton gauze with a butter knife from the galley)......" Sread er even buy.....shes tlast till Reefit"

"Doan maka mess know!"

You must mix it thouroughly. Mix more than you need. Work fast. Cleanup strategy essential.

I have lost a little motivation where this 70k mile engine is concerned after seeing the bearings and the lack of oil changes in its life span.

But the manifold as it sits ready to go on.

For now the 350 holley will go back on with an adapter plate until I have the time to sort the 450 4bbl.

The three machine screws are drilled through the spacer and taped in to the cast iron in the thickest spots that were there.

I started by cutting the 1bbl carb boss off with a 4" grinder and cutting wheel, took ages...

The 7" grinder with a grinding disk made light work of it and it came out pretty flat and true.

I use the 2part Devcon and mixed up a lot of it and sat the spacer in a thick bed of it while it went off. My theory was I would prefer to have more to clean up than not use enough and have to come back ank try to fill vac leaks.

Thanks selfie, that's pretty much exactly how I envisioned those bolts.

Two more questions and I'll let it go.

You said that the 7" grinding wheel made fast work of leveling the manifold. Did you use the sides of the grinding wheel on a hand held grinder?

Also, what orientation will you be mounting the 4bbl carb on? Straight ahead (as on a V-8 manifold), or sideways to maybe help distribution?

Thanks for all the responses selfie, and everyone else!

I'm curious, did you sand the mounting pad flat so it is level with the floor (or workbench) as you look at the manifold or did you maintain the factory angle to the carb mount pad to compensate for the engine angle in the vehicle?

I had thought of mounting the carb East/West but it put the primary closer to the 3 and 4 runners so decided against it.

I used the grinding disc on a 45 degree angle for the most part and the a bit flatter to do the final smoothing.

To tell you the truth Reed I didn't even think about the angle of the carb but I just checked it on the car and the mounting pad is level when attached to the head so dumb luck has had a win :D

I'm wondering if mounting east/west, but with the primaries toward the driver side might help. That way the primaries would be nearer 1 and 6, but since those runners are longer, it might balance out better.

But then there's the linkage problem.................

A cable-style kickdown linkage and electric choke simplify life immensely

Thanks for the good work and documentation. Also, the comments from guys who have done it have earned this thread a bookmark.
