Lou, great seeing the car run so good out of the box. At least I was 1-1 against it.

Car Model:
MP 244 cam (basically stock) degreed at 103, big valve Mike Jeffrey head on stock rebuild 0.030"-over bottom end with 140k on it (1989 rebuild by me), 8.7:1 static comp, Dual Dutra Dual manifolds into turbo via 2" stainless tubes. Baffled and 3/4" deeper oilpan. TIAL external wastegate (38mm??) with supposedly a 5.8 psi spring. My guess is they shipped with an 8psi spring. 38.5 lb/hr Bosch injectors operating at 43 psi fuel pressure and referenced regulator on custom Offy intake with Ford 55 mm (or so) throttle body. MSD port EFI pump in front of stock tank.

It revs really fast in 1st gear (2.74 1st in trans and 3.55 rear). It has seen 5800 before I could catch it and shift - oops. It does appear to nose over above about 5500. I want to shift at 5200-5400 max... Before turbo it would make power to about 5200-5400 also.

Ryan Peterson said his car wouldn't rev past 5500 "no matter what". His exh housing is much smaller than mine, and his compressor is bigger - hmm. I need to find my turbo specs or call Turbonetics again. I could not find them in the stuff Neal had with the turbo when he got it in MN.

Also, the throttle linkage, I discovered, was only opening about 3/4, so reworking that should make the boost come on at lower RPM and should pick me up some time.

Total timing was at 15 deg for most of Saturday, and I bumped to 17-18 deg total later in the day and for Sunday. My guess is we could run it at 20-23 for more power, but I didn't want to risk it on first time out. I also tuned up for 10.6 - 11.4:1 AFR under full boost, which will hurt power but was also conservative for this first outing.

Lou

I think you have a 10.90 hidden in that car. Go ahead...you know you want to.

I will. I sorted out a few issues from last fall.

Awesome lou, sounds like it's gonna fly, you didn't want to run a little bit of a more aggressive cam to work with that jeffrey head? Well who knows I have no idea of the specs for that mp cam.

Turbo means mild cam is usually best. I could step up a little, but no hurry. Drakes went their fastest with this cam after playing around with some bigger cams. 244 deg advertised duration, 0.436" lift, and maybe 110 LSA (can't remember).

Yep, Ryan, I will probably get to the 10s, but I'm slow on the uptake... I require absolute street reliability on this car, so maybe 12s will be in the works for next year.

I did not have a wideband O2 on it, so I can only guess, but it was probably close to 12.5-13:1 under WOT since I played with tuning on the dragstrip for fastest 1/4 mile time. We went from 24 lb/hr injectors to 38.5 lb/hr injectors, and reworked the EFI tuning map.

I have the same AEM sensor on my '64 Dart (NA, mid 14 sec car) and I run that in the 12.5:1 range.

Turbos require more fuel for optimum power (and safety from detonation).

If you are not familiar with "brake specific fuel consumption" (BSFC), you may want to read about that for various motor types.

Completed trip down from MN/WI to VA this morning at 4 AM. Car was a dream to drive, even with 800+ lbs of motor, tranny, etc. 22-23 MPG overall, somewhat lower going through the mountains at high speed early this morning. Turbo is really nice pulling up the mountains.

Thanks to Dennis and Caroline for a lovely breakfast and bike ride in Chicago, and Nick and Rafaela for hanging out and dropping another 225 and 904 on me in N Ohio. Had the biggest ice cream cone in about 10 yrs at Ridgecrest Corners "Tropical Freeze" about 30 min E of Nicks place...

Nice to have the Dart home.

Cheers to all,

Lou

All that stuff fits nicely inside the car, and I would say it's really only about 1/2 full. Trans is (still) in the backseat and engine in the spare tire well.
