Post subject: | Eureka / Samoa this weekend! |
This weekend is the Eureka / Samoa race and the Roll Call is looking pretty healthy with a potential 17 racers! Our National points leader PJ Jesiolowski and three other Killer Bees points leaders are all planning to attend, so they will extend their lead for the following week going into the Elk Creek race in Virginia. PJ has a comfortable 40 point lead over the next top Killer Bees leaders, CJ and Wendy. (I left Mike Jeffrey out because he typically doesn't chase Slant 6 points. He just takes all the points at Kearney and goes back to focusing on his Sportsman racing where he represents the Slant 6 in that venue ) Wendy took the last Killer Bees race at Woodburn over PJ, so it is feasible that Wendy Pine could win it all again at Samoa and be our new points leader! CJ Stoakes has been thrashing on the tranny issues with his car to be ready for this weekend as well, so he's in the hunt too. Then there's Richard Bjerklund (Fopar) only one round down in points from them... Will the little Country Singer from Paradise, CA be able to hold on to her commanding lead as she competes in her fourth Slant 6 points race of the year? Or will the other Lady Racer, also from Paradise, CA be able to pull off a big win and take the lead? Has CJ gotten his tranny issues sorted out enough to give the ladies a run for their money? Stay tuned here for the latest in racing action as we anxiously await the news from Eureka, California where most of the nation's top West Coast racers prepare to do battle in their quest to become the 2011 Slant 6 Racing National Champion!!! Post subject: | The Samoa Upset! |
Well,... Samoa had some interesting results: PJ was able to hold on to the #1 seat in the run for the Championship, but she was shut down in the first round. The other Leading Lady, Wendy Pine, also did not advance past that first round. It was Andrew "Kidd" Howard that came up with the big win in our first 50 point race of the year. With this big win he advances all the way into the #6 spot along with East Coast racer Lou Madsen. Richard "Fopar" Bjerklund was the runner up and jumped all the way into the #2 spot with his 41 points from this race; putting him just 11 points behind our leader, PJ Jesiolowski with 83 points to her 94 total. CJ Stoakes was able to put some points on the board and push his car to its fastest time at Samoa. With his one round win he advances into the #3 spot with a total of 64 points. Here's what the Leader Board looks like at the conclusion of the Samoa race. PJ Jesiolowski - 94 Richard Bjerklund - 83 CJ Stoakes - 64 Mike Jeffrey - 62 Wendy Pine - 54 Andrew Howard - 53 Lou Madsen - 53 Charlie Schmid - 42 Ron Hamby - 42 Ryan Covalt - 42 George Harris - 32 Aric Erickson - 31 Brian Droschak - 31 Seymour Pederson - 23 Micah Covalt (Rookie) - 22 Dennis Schumers - 22 Dana Prater - 22 Scott Jones (Rookie) - 21 Rhonda Amis - 21 Jeff Parson (Rookie) - 21 Now it's up to the East Coast contingent to put some points on the board and throw down the gauntlet at the next two races at Elk Creek, VA and Knoxville, TN. Elk Creek is a two-day race, so that's a total of three points races in the East before things swing back West and we return to Woodburn and Medford, OR. Most likely candidates to make themselves known and take those leader spots are Lou Madsen, Ron Hamby, Charlie Schmid and Ryan Covalt. There are other names not yet showing that will be racing though: Rodney Hargis has yet to make an appearance this year. He is always hard to beat in his Lancer and has been our National Champion twice in the past. Last year's Champion, Meril Bruner, and second place winner, Gary Bruner, will be making themselves known as well. Stay tuned here for the latest in racing action as we see what the East Coast racers are gonna bring to the table at Elk Creek and Knoxville as they continue the race to become the 2011 Slant 6 Racing National Champion!!! Looks good except Charlie still has only 42 pts. A bunch of us heard him say he was not going to count points for the Elk Creek race before eliminations started (actually, before the ladder was drawn). We thought that Rick Covalt might still technically be a rookie, having only run one race last year, but he thinks he ran 2 races at Hagerstown in 2010, taking him out of Rookie competition. Micah is by far the leader there... Thanks, Rob!! Lou |

Thanks for all your updates, Rob. We (The Covalt Clan) may come to Clay city in the Fall. So we may get to see you there. Rick |

Thanks Guys. I edited the post above to get Charlie back to just 42 points. Rick did earn 2 points last year. |

Quote: Did I get Seymour in the right group? Is he a Killer Bee or an East Coaster?
I've changed Seymour to reflect his Killer Bees status. We never did come up with a better name for the East Coast group after the North and South combined, did we? What about Neal Hines and Ryan Peterson? They're both from MN too, right? Anyone know which side (East/West) of the Mississippi River Neal Hines and Ryan Peterson live on? |

Post subject: | Knoxville results pending... |
The Knoxville 2-Day race is now completed. I'm waiting for the complete rundown, but here's a little peak at what happened. There were 7 racers to make each day a 30 point race. Charlie Schmid won Friday and Gary Bruner won Saturday. There were 5 race cars and 2 cream puff street cars (driven by Ladies ) We're up to a total of 59 racers so far this year. Courtney Bruner might be a Rookie, but I'll have to check my notes to confirm that. Once I have the complete rundown I'll update the standings. |

Still waiting for the full rundown on the Knoxville race, but I have a couple notes to add... I confirmed that Courtney Bruner (Gary's daughter) is a first time racer this year. She drove Gary's survivor '64 Valiant. So, that brings us up to 11 Rookies this year! We have 7 Lady Racers so far this year and one of 'em is in 1st place! Also, there is another rules change point I brought up for next year concerning guaranteed minimum points for 2-Day races. If you haven't checked out the thread and added your own thoughts, please see here: http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=45832 Once I have the Knoxville race points tallied I will update the complete list. I know the Killer Bees are anxiously awaiting the results to get psyched up for Woodburn this weekend. |

Post subject: | Knoxville Results are in! Tie for 1st place! :-) |
Okay, I just got off the phone with Barbara Bruner and got the full rundown on Knoxville. Gary Bruner was Runner-Up on Friday for 21 points and won on Saturday for 31 points. However, given our current "minimum point guarantee", he receives 41 points for his win on Saturday for a weekend total of 62 points. That puts him in a tie for 1st place with PJ! Charlie Schmid won on Friday for 31 points and won one round on Saturday for 11 points. The Friday race at Knoxville last year was only a 30 point race, so Charlie does not benefit from the "minimum point guarantee" for his win. His 42 points for the weekend put him in a tie for 2nd place with Ron Hamby. Here's the updated roster as we go into the Woodburn race this weekend: PJ Jesiolowski - 94 Gary Bruner - 94 Ron Hamby - 84 Charlie Schmid - 84 Richard Bjerklund - 83 Lou Madsen - 75 CJ Stoakes - 64 Rick Covalt - 62 Mike Jeffrey - 62 Wendy Pine - 54 Micah Covalt (Rookie) - 54 Andrew Howard - 53 Ryan Covalt - 44 George Harris - 32 Brian Droschak - 31 Aric Erickson - 31 Meril Bruner - 24 Seymour Pederson - 23 Dana Prater - 22 Dennis Schumers - 22 Ellen Chesney - 22 Courtney Bruner (Rookie) - 22 Scott Jones (Rookie) - 21 Rhonda Amis - 21 Jeff Parson (Rookie) - 21 Greg Ondayko - 14 Mark Etheridge - 12 Chris Evrard - 12 Denny Covalt - 12 Ken Anderson - 12 Brian Mimken - 12 Lukus Bruner - 12 Romeo Furio - 11 Ed Thomson (Rookie) - 11 Jon Chronak (Rookie) - 11 Pat Dawson (Rookie) - 11 Neal Hines (Rookie) - 11 Doug Powers - 11 Bill Poehler - 11 Wayne Erickson - 11 Mike Bjerklund - 3 Allen Dutra - 2 Doug Dutra - 2 Phil Stoneback - 2 Aaron Heath (Rookie) - 2 Will Burns - 2 Whitney Covalt (Rookie) - 2 Mike Evans - 2 Larry Chesney - 2 Mike Keller - 1 Frank Wright - 1 Charles Brooks Jr. - 1 Ryan Peterson - 1 Althea Mueller - 1 Dave Mueller - 1 Tim Mouton (Rookie) - 1 David Erickson - 1 Mark Murray - 1 Rick Valent - 1 Good luck PJ! Go Get 'Em Girl!! |

Post subject: | Woodburn Results. PJ still #1. |
Here's the updated roster after the Woodburn race last weekend: PJ Jesiolowski - 95 Gary Bruner - 94 Wendy Pine - 85 Ron Hamby - 84 Charlie Schmid - 84 Richard Bjerklund - 84 Lou Madsen - 75 CJ Stoakes - 65 Andrew Howard - 64 Rick Covalt - 62 Mike Jeffrey - 62 Micah Covalt (Rookie) - 54 Ryan Covalt - 44 Randy Ashley (Rookie) - 41 George Harris - 32 Brian Droschak - 31 Aric Erickson - 31 Meril Bruner - 24 Seymour Pederson - 23 Dana Prater - 22 Dennis Schumers - 22 Ellen Chesney - 22 Courtney Bruner (Rookie) - 22 Doug Powers - 22 Scott Jones (Rookie) - 21 Rhonda Amis - 21 Jeff Parson (Rookie) - 21 Greg Ondayko - 14 Mike Bjerklund - 14 Mark Etheridge - 12 Chris Evrard - 12 Denny Covalt - 12 Ken Anderson - 12 Brian Mimken - 12 Lukus Bruner - 12 Romeo Furio - 11 Ed Thomson (Rookie) - 11 Jon Chronak (Rookie) - 11 Pat Dawson (Rookie) - 11 Neal Hines (Rookie) - 11 Bill Poehler - 11 Wayne Erickson - 11 Allen Dutra - 2 Doug Dutra - 2 Phil Stoneback - 2 Aaron Heath (Rookie) - 2 Will Burns - 2 Whitney Covalt (Rookie) - 2 Mike Evans - 2 Larry Chesney - 2 Dave Mueller - 2 Mike Keller - 1 Frank Wright - 1 Charles Brooks Jr. - 1 Ryan Peterson - 1 Althea Mueller - 1 Tim Mouton (Rookie) - 1 David Erickson - 1 Mark Murray - 1 Rick Valent - 1 Walt Sloezylas (Rookie) - 1 This brings us up to a total of 62 racers this year. Just 24 more new racers and we'll have our biggest year yet. The Rookie count is now up to 13 to account for almost 21% of our racers! Way to go to those of you recruiting new people! Eureka has been our biggest race this year with 17 racers and a total of 217 points earned. Hagerstown is next at 16 racers and 166 points. Going into Medford this coming weekend I see that Wendy, Richard, CJ and Andrew are all planning to attend, so this Leader Board will BEE changing again. PJ hasn't been added to the roll call yet... Will she defend her standing as #1 at Medford? Or will Wendy take the lead as she comes off a Runner-Up finish at Woodburn? What about Richard and CJ? They are both coming off first round losses at Woodburn. Is Richard gonna turn it up and win a round or two to take the lead? He's only one round behind PJ! CJ is in search of lower ETs more than points, but BOTH would be nice... Right Ceej? Andrew took home all the marbles at our biggest event of the year. Is he waiting for another 5 round race to turn up the heat again? The Medford Roll Call isn't there yet and it was only a 3 round race last time... Let's see what happens this weekend. Have fun folks! |

Post subject: | Medford puts Fopar at #1 |
The Medford results are in and Richard Bjerklund has moved up to the #1 spot by finishing 2nd with 31 points. Andrew Howard won the race and moved up to the #2 spot in Championship points. Richard Bjerklund - 115 Andrew Howard - 105 PJ Jesiolowski - 96 Gary Bruner - 94 Wendy Pine - 85 Ron Hamby - 84 Charlie Schmid - 84 CJ Stoakes - 76 Lou Madsen - 75 Rick Covalt - 62 Mike Jeffrey - 62 Micah Covalt (Rookie) - 54 Ryan Covalt - 44 Randy Ashley (Rookie) - 41 George Harris - 32 Rober Evanoff - 32 Brian Droschak - 31 Aric Erickson - 31 Meril Bruner - 24 Seymour Pederson - 23 Dana Prater - 23 Dennis Schumers - 22 Ellen Chesney - 22 Courtney Bruner (Rookie) - 22 Doug Powers - 22 Bruce Pine (Rookie) - 21 Scott Jones (Rookie) - 21 Rhonda Amis - 21 Jeff Parson (Rookie) - 21 Mike Bjerklund - 15 Greg Ondayko - 14 Mark Etheridge - 12 Chris Evrard - 12 Denny Covalt - 12 Ken Anderson - 12 Brian Mimken - 12 Lukus Bruner - 12 Romeo Furio - 11 Ed Thomson (Rookie) - 11 Jon Chronak (Rookie) - 11 Pat Dawson (Rookie) - 11 Neal Hines (Rookie) - 11 Bill Poehler - 11 Wayne Erickson - 11 Allen Dutra - 2 Doug Dutra - 2 Phil Stoneback - 2 Aaron Heath (Rookie) - 2 Will Burns - 2 Whitney Covalt (Rookie) - 2 Mike Evans - 2 Larry Chesney - 2 Dave Mueller - 2 Frank Wright - 2 Mike Keller - 1 Charles Brooks Jr. - 1 Ryan Peterson - 1 Althea Mueller - 1 Tim Mouton (Rookie) - 1 David Erickson - 1 Mark Murray - 1 Rick Valent - 1 Walt Sloezylas (Rookie) - 1 With Bruce Pine racing this weekend instead of Wendy we now have a total of 63 racers this year. Let's see what the answers to last week's questions are... PJ hasn't been added to the roll call yet... Will she defend her standing as #1 at Medford? - Yes, but she got put out in the first round by the event winner, Andrew. Word has it that she came back later and cleaned house in the Inliner event and represented the Slant 6 well in that venue. Or will Wendy take the lead as she comes off a Runner-Up finish at Woodburn? Nope, she let Bruce take the wheel this weekend and helped increase our overall car count for the year. What about Richard and CJ? They are both coming off first round losses at Woodburn. Is Richard gonna turn it up and win a round or two to take the lead? He's only one round behind PJ! Yes, indeed he did! CJ is in search of lower ETs more than points, but BOTH would be nice... Right Ceej? He won a round and is now 8th in points. Andrew took home all the marbles at our biggest event of the year. Is he waiting for another 5 round race to turn up the heat again? The Medford Roll Call isn't there yet and it was only a 3 round race last time... Yep, he turned it up and won this one! They also had 9 cars to make it a 40 point race. Next up is Bristol this coming weekend where the East Coast racers will attempt to take away that #1 seat. Gary Bruner definitely wants this one! He'll be at Bristol looking for some round wins. Ron Hamby and Lou Madsen will also be on hand. Charlie Schmid is also looking to contend for the Championship this year, but will not be able to make Bristol this weekend. We'll see you at Clay City Charlie!! The Covalt Crew will not be going to Bristol, so it looks like it's up to Gary, Ron and Lou to get the East Coast back up to the top of the Leader Board. Will Gary be able to cut some good lights and earn enough points to be #1? Will Bristol offer enough points to allow either Ron or Lou to win enough rounds to take over the lead? Gary stands the best chance if he can avoid those dreaded red lights. Would somebody please get Gary a "No Red Lights" shirt for this event? Ron and Lou will be standing in Gary's way to that #1 spot. Word has it that Rodney "Mr. Consistent" Hargis will be bringing his Lancer to this event, so Gary is going to have his hands full... |
