I have a headlight bucket that I would give you if you need it. Just let me know. That really sucks that it happened that way. Last time I went to all American classics in Washington they wanted 125 for a driver fender for an A body that was rust free.

We'll see what happens...I have 2 full 73-76 duster front clips and a nice 1974 grille (I could shod it as a 1975 or 1976 duster as well...thanks to the "magic shed") I can part together another duster from scratch....just really cheezes me off, because this was a very straight car from the get go, and barely had it's new life in hand.

Sounds like I need to come over so we can do a front clip swap....

Oh man, bummer! What a wanker of a cop. Here in Washington, cops cannot, by law, make such assumptions about speed based on a skidmark unless they receive VERY specialized training and do lots of investigation first.

At least you have the spare parts to rebuild it. I say repaint the original mint color!

Called the body shop today to see how things were progressing, they pulled the damaged fender and bumper and found the frame had suffered some damage as well. :(

Tomorrow the adjuster will come back out to assess the added damage which unfortunately will put the repair bill past the "total" mark for the car.
It doesn't sit well with me since I only got 50 miles with this car and hadn't got to know it yet...I told my insurance company I would like to acquire the car (buy it back), which they will allow, but I will not be able to retitle as a salvage and be insured on it...so I'll be parting it down and looking for another Duster.

On some friendly advice I was told to gather up my receipts and get a NADA value on the car so my "payout" will be better. So far going NADA and deducting the amount for the '6cylinder', and some money because it's a daily driver the amount really isn't bad (it's more than what I have into the car and the price I paid for it). i have receipts for the machine work on the engine and the new carpet I put in...sadly everything else
I got from being a good scavenger and packrat, so I can't produce receipts for many other items I replaced in the car (but hopefully since they made the car's condition improve I hope that the appraiser/adjuster
upgrades the condition and value of the car as a whole).

I get the Hpak Duster back tomorrow, so I win one and lose one, but I won't break even...not when losing a good and somewhat 'rare' car like
this...

Call me soon before you do anything.

Work a deal with someone just over the border in Wa to "sell" the car to them, get a rebuilt title, then "sell" it back to you.

Tomorrow I'll go to the shop and see what they uncovered, no word on the estimator yet...Did a little digging around for the price of the car...technically NADA places the price between 2800-3800 depending on what they term as a daily driver vs. a "20 footer" (this car at 20 feet away looked good....)so it may not be a total if the mark is closer to $3800...

The insurance company has already paid for the repairs at the repair shop of my choosing, if they don't repair it as directed things get legal.
Because insurance is involved they have to keep my original parts for 30 days to prove the "warranty repair" as well...(Then I could take those as well...)

I've already directed them to stop work already pending what happens next...

Unfortunately if it's a total I have to surrender the current title to DMV
immediately and they are informed of it by the insurance company and track the VIN, they can then issue me a reconstructed title after that though...not much help there.

If I was bent on pulling a "Gone in 60 Seconds" (the original, the first 15 minutes), I technically have the dash, data plate, driver's side door, radiator support cross piece, and the full floor pan from my old 1974 (and still have a clear title for it-even though is is just a bunch of chunks and spare parts), and "clone" my '74 (would have to repaint the car in Y5 Yellow though).

I'll scope out the damage, then go from there (I'm hoping the owner is there as he's an OK guy, I think the service guy I'm dealing with feels a bit shaky).

Hpak duster came back today, but the insurance company only authorized repair to the panel, the paint was too worn out to repaint
that section. Was going to pull the car apart and recondition it as the last 11 years has kind of worn out the original work, but was waiting to get the green duster on the road, then concentrate on the hpak duster...

Some days you can't win.

More news as it breaks (literally).

In Florida, if the repair will be more then 80% of the value of the vehicle, state law says it must be totaled. When my wifes 88 diplomat was wrecked, the insurance company said the car must be totaled. I told the adjuster to write the estimate, for $1.00 less then the 80% amount, write me a check, and I would get it fixed, myself. He wrote me a check on the spot. That was about 18 years ago, still driving the car.

What a crummy situation. The whole way auto insurance is handled is pretty scummy. Of course everyone wants a new car, right?

Just got back from the body shop and they have the fender off and the bumper skin off. Frame and K-member are in good health, didn't see anything out of the ordinary, the tech working on the car noticed some
small rust issues and was in the process correcting them before work was halted, the bumper brackets were straight and intact as well.

:?

Monday I'm going to call my insurance rep and the adjuster. I do not see a problem with them getting the parts painted and swap completed and the car getting back on the road (plus or minus a radiator and a re-alignment possibly). I talked about it with the owner's son (the owner is a stand up guy and a classic car owner as well), they handed my case over to their manager who I'm beginning to think is trying to get more work/money out of the situation to improve his commission possibly.

:x

Appraiser came back out to the body shop...

Took a look at what the manager and tech were jabbering about, took a couple of pics. Will know more tomorrow, but the appraiser said something to the tune of "those guys don't know how mopar welded the radiator support to the unibody/subframe and they think it's a hack job from a previous wreck..."

Oh brother...
