While that is true,it doesnt always help mpg. Just because you cruise at a lower rpm,does not mean it will be optimal for economy,for the best economy you want to cruise in the power band.
Also, you gotta correct for the change in miles--have to fix the speedo, or apply some correction factor to the calculated mpg, to adjust to get the actual distance traveled.
