Im surprised you only get 14. Mine got 18 with the leanburn once. lol but i do have s 4 spd no OD. When my leanburn computer quite i was getting about 11mpg. Switched to hei and i got 15 with a bad running carb, ive tried 3 different holley 1920's and the only carb that has worked good on my truck is the original 1945 that had a ported spark tube. Mine also has the 2 piece intake. the 2bbl intake im making is an 85' single cast aluminum intake. Yours must be a light half ton, because ive pulled a trailer weighing about 1.5tons and it didnt even make the back level with the front. Ive also had 500lbs of line chalk in the bed and that didnt level it either. Mine seems to pull anything. |

I think what Chrysler did was slap D-150 badges on this truck, even though it's actually a D-100. Then they added the D-150 price. Seriously, what heavy half ton actually comes WITHOUT a front sway bar? 500 pounds in my bed and I'm looking at the sky. They actually look like the same springs that are on that old M-body rear end I've got behind my shop. |

Well, I haven't been on here in a while so I decided to check back in with everyone. My dad is recovering from his knee surgery so I've had some more time to devote to my truck. So far this is what I've accomplished: Completed the Lean Burn removal and HEI installation (truck runs great, starts easy even without a choke) Removed smog pump, gutted it, repacked the rear bearing, and reinstalled it so now it's just a silent idler pulley. Blocked off the air pump tube to keep exhaust gas from getting pushed back up into the pump (bad check valve) Installed an auxillary trans cooler Removed the power steering pump, rebuilt it, and reinstalled it. Installed new power steering hose to replace the mopar originals Replaced the original Mopar upper radiator hose Replaced the factory 195* thermostat with a 180* unit Blocked off the EGR valve Removed the EGR "octopus" from the manifold Rebuilt the carb, found a loose idle pickup tube and staked it back in place Installed a new set of Autolite plugs gapped to .045 Installed my new electric fan and controls Next on the list is a transmission fluid & fliter change and a much needed band adjustment. |

Yeah, I would start on one thing and then find something else that needed attention. So I've pretty much worked my way around the entire engine bay in this truck. |

Well, I got everything reassembled on the truck and took it for a test drive. Even with that puny 1945 it's a pretty strong runner and has gobs of low end now. Also serviced my transmission and it shifts much nicer, but it still has that annoying BANG everytime I put it into reverse. Anywho, fast forward to yesterday. I had just finished waxing my truck and had it nice and shiny. I cranked it up and backed it out of the shop and noticed a puddle of water on the floor where I had it parked. A little investigation turned up a leaking weep hole on my water pump. So... I took everything back off again, removed the aftermarket A/C bracket (since it's bolted to the water pump), A/C compressor, smog pump, and the idler pulley. Then it hit me, since I already have all this crap off the truck, why not go ahead and slap the super six on it since I was going to have to remove all the stuff AGAIN to swap out the manifolds. So, I pulled 1 barrel intake/exhaust combo off the truck tonight. Soaked everything down with PB Blaster before hand so for the first time none of the bolts wrung off. I have to admit, that aluminum intake is a lot easier on the back than that cast iron one! So here is my engine now. I stuck my finger in the intake ports and the valves are nice and clean (thank you seafoam). ![]() Date my engine was "born" ![]() |

Hey Jeb, I love your attitude! ![]() ![]() I bet you could help me figure out how to set the timing if I came to another race down at SGMP, huh? You've come a long way, my friend! (Certainly a LOT further along than me... ![]() |

Well, it's time for more updates. Things have slowed down a bunch since I'm now getting to the tedious nit picky part of things. All I've done the past two days is repaint old parts and remove old gasket material. My repainted super six manifold ![]() Touched up exhaust manifold. It's painted with POR-15 manifold paint, which seems to work very well. ![]() |

Stuck the manifolds together this morning for a photo op. Ordered a Remflex gasket set last night since I only want to do this once. The first time it's an adventure, the second time it's just annoying. ![]() |

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, my remflex gaskets arrived. Got the manifolds on and finger tight. I plan on torquing everything down tomorrow and hopefully starting the truck. ![]() ![]() Also managed to find a NOS temperature gauge, so I now have a full compliment of gauges. I've already changed the sending units for gauges from the idiot light senders. I just hope everything works. ![]() All that's left now is to install my new water pump, A/C bracketry, bleed the brakes, and replace the vacuum lines for the brake booster and the cruise control. |

IT LIVES! Fired up the slant today and I'm glad to report that I have no vacuum leaks. I didn't have the head pipe bolted up so I just let it run for a few seconds to make sure it would idle and that my mixture screws would work. The only problem I have now is an annoying fuel leak on the front of the carb where the line goes in. Did they change the flare on the fittings in the 80's, because I didn't have this problem with the Duster. |
