Josh,

I second that request! I would like to make the larger one to test and see if there is a difference between the one I am running now.

Thanks,

I wish, but sadly it never came...

Huh? I shipped it to you months ago, why haven't you already said something? I always assumed you had gotten it.

Ted, if you want I'll send you the whole heat shield if I can find an envelope big enough to put it in.

Heh, was busy painting the car and getting married. Honestly, I forgot you were sending it until today. Would still love to have a scan or something!

Awesome!

I will make a full size aluminum template from it....and have Reed post the specs.

Thanks,

Found a pic of the factory 2-part heat shield someone posted on the a-bodies forum.

Image.
Looks like there's some minor differences. I wonder what design is the best (extra hole vs. removable extension).

What is striking to me is how large that heat shield is. It looks like it extends almost all the way to the cylinder head and far over towards the fender

Nope -- it doesn't go anywhere like that far. It does cover most of the intake manifold, but that's all. The "somebody" who posted the pics on the other board was me; I've posted that same pic on here. There are two designs of heat shield: the two-piece composite fibre type shown in the photo in this thread and the line drawing from the parts catalogue, and a stamped aluminum version that is otherwise the same. I'm not sure what nomade means by "extra hole".

And I'm still amazed that nobody who has one of these (nomade…?) is willing to trace it on graph paper and/or scan it so we can make more of them. C'mon, folks, let's help each other out a little, eh?

If I EVER find one in a boneyard I am going to get it. I wish I had kept the one that was on that LeBaron I used to have. At this late date I think one of these heat shields would be a very rare find.

Since we know the spacing between the carb stud holes, couldn't we use that as a scale and then reverse engineer the dimensions of the rest of the shield? It wouldn't be easy, but it could be done.

I saw one a couple of years ago on a Ramcharger. The same one I pulled the "Turbonator" that I sent to Reed. It was sitting there on the studs.

Hey! I still have that turbinator! You should have grabbed the heat shield too.

Oups, I didn't notice, sorry

Any idea what year those shields were introduced. I didn't find any mention of it in the 74-75 parts book I have.

Sure, I can make DXF and PDF templates (a good scan, pencil rubbing transfer or at least photos on a metric grid will help a lot make it accurate)

Not impossible, but depending on what camera was used lens distortion may be a problem. Meaning we'll have to do some cardboard templates and test fit them until everything's right.
Since I'm still not confident playing shade-tree mechanic on the side of the street, unless I find a decent place to park the van more than 3 days I won't be able to try that option before winter.

Post subject:  Heat sheild

Folks,

Sad news, Jeb was going to send me his, but he said it was misplaced so I can't make a template.....
I would be happy to help if anyone has one.

I think the heat shield is as effective as Dan's fuel line mod.
Both are great mods...
