Yes the overrunning clutch will work, just be sure to clean it real good. The pin just slides in use a pair of snap ring pliers in the hole at the end of the shaft it will pull out (use a twist & pull) Richard |

Ah, okay, thanks. I've got the slant six case nearly completely disassembled (read band hardware and overrunning clutch housing still in case) and cleaned and painted. Still trying to figure out where that loose screw goes. It looks like there is a throttle lever stop screw in the 67 valve body, but maybe I am just imagining it. I will pour over my shop manuals tonight and look closely at the valve bodies some more. I will begin a careful and clean disassembly of the v-8 tranny, upgrading of the 67 valve body, and reassembly of all parts into the slant six case. I will post pictures as I go, so you can all point out my mistakes and laugh at me. |

Got the low/reverse band pin out. Fopar is dead right- snap ring plier expanded on the inside, gentle tug and twisting motion. I do have one question. The 67 valve body uses the older one pin neutral start switch and the 79 uses the newer three pin. The 79 valve body has a plastic cam on the end of the gear selector comb but the 67 valve body has two metal bumps: ![]() Will I be OK using the three pin NSS on the 67 selector comb or do I need to swap combs or ??? |

You will need to swap combs, that can be fun you will need to hold the ball bearing in place while removing the comb. Make a sheet metal "U" with a hole centered over the ball. Make it snug enough to hold the ball back against the spring tension. You still haven't taken the 3 screws out (they are at the top right of the last pics). If you this and post picture of the valve bodies, I will be able to see what kind of part throttle kick down you have on the lockup valve body and if it will work on the V8 valve body. Richard |

OH! I just got it! When you say "valve body" in this context you are referring to the PART THROTTLE KICKDOWN sub-valvebody, not the complete larger valve body the kickdown attaches to. Duh, that makes more sense. I will pull it and post pictures tomorrow. Sorry, I am a little slow sometimes. Yes, I have removed the comb before on a different transmission when I installed a shift kit. It is tricky to keep all the springs and such under control. |

Reed, I did mean a side view of both the main valve bodies behind the part that is covered by the flat plate & the part throttle housing on the other valve body. There is a difference in valve bodies, one uses a smaller cover for the part throttle kick down than the other. Richard |

OK- hopefully this will tell you what you need to know. The covers look pretty much the same size- about three inches long and one inch thick, tapered on one side. 1979 part throttle kickdown valve body: ![]() ![]() 1967 spot for the part throttle kickdown: ![]()

More pictures, more questions. 79 on the left, 67 on the right: ![]() The cover plates for the kickdown assemblies appear very similar in size, except the 79 one has the upper right corner extended up and out to cover up a third spring that is not present on the 67 VB: ![]() That third spring has me worried. There are two differences I spot immediately comparing the 67 and 79 VBs- the third spring under the kickdown assembly cover plate and the spring on the piston (?) above and behind the kickdown area on the 79 but the lack of the same spring on the piston on the 67: 79: ![]() 67: ![]() Will those two differences between the valve bodies defeat my attempt to use the part throttle kickdown from the 79 on the 67 valve body? According to my 83 FSM, the third spring on the 79 VB is the 1-2 shift control valve and spring. |

Reed, the 67 uses a smaller part throttle kick down, it is an aluminum cover with a raised lump that has a piston in it. I will post a picture of it from a page in a book that shows a breakdown of the valve body. Richard |

Crap. OK- (1) so you are saying that the 79 PTK won't work on the 67 VB? (2) Any way I could use the 79 VB in the 79 case with the 67 clutches, gears, governor, and bands? (3) Actually, do I want to keep the 79 gears and governor in the 79 case since the 79 governor is for a slant six instead of a 318? |

Reed it's not that it won't work you just need to get the proper PTKD cover for the valve body. Richard |

So I need something like THIS? |

Reed that is it. Do not use the input shaft from the lockup trans & check the front pumps there might be some differences there also. Richard |

You know, I am thinking I might just be better off finding a post-70 transmission and rebuilding it. There are just too many potential differences between the 67 and the 79 for me to feel comfortable swapping parts around. |

Reed your point is well taken. Richard |
