hi there, got a 79 super6 volare, engine is a 83 truck, was running old 205-75-14 all season at around 24 1/4 tall, not sure rear gear but its a high one, think its a 2.23?. stock bbd tweeked for millage not speed. made a few trips to iowa driving 145 miles round trip on freeways with cruise control on. fill tank (20 gallon ) drive 145 miles, refill tank, the most it took was 5 1/2 gln ( about 24 mpg) the least it tiook was 5 gallons (29 mpg). no wind that day ,cruise on at 68 mph with no passing ,very few hills. when off freeway coast as much as possible. done this trip at least 10 times getting the worst of 22 on a $#!+, windy day.. i have no idea why she gets so good milage. also running bosch platnim plus plugs gapped at .035, new cap n rotor, mixture screws at 4 3/4 turns out, no tach so no info on rpm, thanks,,,,,, alf

A 83 engine uses a smaller cam with a different head then the solid cam engines..The rest depends on carb and timing but in 83 the trucks would turn back 27 mpg at 60 mph in real life during the epa fuel test.Thats using the "lean burn" with egr.

That was the miser with a a833 ,I know my 83 with oversized tires(p235/75r15 vs the stock 205's) when runing atf in the a833 and synthetic in the engine does a real good job of gas mileage even with a BBd on it. Don't have exact figures because still trying to get the speedo to read right but 24 mpg with out correction-it reads somewhere to 20-30% low.
