There are places that rebuild them and use a more modern material. Check this site out.

looked at Damper Dudes and Damper Doctor to re new the damper for the 83 D-150,, I think it came down to a flip of a coin, Damper Doctor got the job.

25.00 for chip repair, one owner (my dad), can't believe the damper was ever off,, but it had a large break out on the inner groove area?? Damper Dr. braized it in like the chip out was never there.

and I stamped the damper so I could ID it in case it was switched,, (thats just me) I know I got my original part back..
fairly quick, a week to ten days, not to say the Damper Dudes are not just as good, but Damper DR, picked up the phone and turned my damper around quick.

keep in mind the 25.00 of the 117 was for a chip repair,,,,
with that said,, I am a fool for any major slant six part for less than a C note, so I bought one of those NOS E bay 3 pulley heavy dampers that was in your post, 60.00 + shipping,,I am In,,, Thanks for the tip. I already have a D-150 being tuned for low RPM, manual tranny with a heavy F/W, so I'll put a heavy damper on the other end of the crank,, more spin motion for the torque monster.

I'll use the rebuilt damper originally intended for the 83 on the first intermediate 68 cuda slant build,,will be a street/strip driver.

Timing mark would be in the wrong place, but either making a new mark or using a '67-up timing cover and indicator (more convenient with distributor-side timing marks) would address that. Other than that, I can't think of a reason why it won't work.
