Hydraulic cam did have a groove on the rear journal. I was just curious if reducing the bolt shank diameter was something worth doing just for oil flow improvement. Sounds like it isn't something to worry about.

Mr. Weertman says "In response to your question about the rocker shaft attachment and oiling, I vaguely remember our making a change to prevent misassembly but remember nothing regarding any related effect on valve train oiling."

Seems like we all might sleep a little better (knowing our oil pumps had a little less stress with another outlet) if we converted to the stepped bolt design and made the extra holes for oil return as stated in the head porting article.

Its also nice to know that the solid lifters shouldn't be used with a 268h-10 cam, thanks, no joke.

I just finished rebuild and could never get sufficient oil through passages I know we're clean and clear.
I can only conclude the rations hip of holes in block/cam bearing/and camshaft don't allow long enough window of opportunity for oil to flow properly.
My solution was to run an oil line from oil pressure manifold to custom made plug in front end of rocker arm through hole drilled in valve cover. 1/4 inch line created minimal drop in oil pressure.
So far so good.

I seriously doubt the factory design was at fault. I would believe an upside down rocker arm shaft or misaligned bearing.

Seems to me, I recall some cams that did not have the holes in the rear journal located properly.

Hello

I am new here and more or less new to slant sixes. I was reading and checking this post because i want to rebuild a slant from a truck. I want to buy a cam-Kit. But i do not know now if i need a hydraulic or mechanical one. I am confused because i have definitely the smaller rear rocker shaft bolt BUT i do not have this groove/step in the Cam.

Can you help me out please which Cam-kit i should choose?

Thanks a lot

Manuel

Hi Manuel,

Welcome! You need to find out what year is your engine block. Probably it is the same year as your truck. Can you take a picture of your valve cover and post it here so we can see if it is a hydraulic lifter or solid lifter engine?

Also, maybe another moderator can move this post and the last post into a new thread? I do not seem to be able to do this.

Thanks and all the best,

Lou
