Congrats again on getting the dart back on the road! And now that I've seen your shop, I have something to shoot for in the afterlife...

For all you board members, I first met Lou about a year ago when I broke a u-joint in my 72 charger and got stuck in the middle of the road with a dragging driveshaft and no spare. I was about to call a truck when a mopar samaritan pulls over in his slantkota and pulls one out of his bed box along with some wrenches. He sure saved my bacon that day!

Being fairly slow when it comes to such things, it took me until about a week ago to put together the fact that one of the big slant gurus on a board I've been lurking since 06 was the same guy who got me moving again--and lives only a few blocks away from me to boot.

Anyways Lou, I look forward to doing more wrenching in the future. And thanks to a ride in that dart, my next slant might not have the luxury of tooling around town bone stock

Good to hear Lou. Sometimes we worry ourselves right past the little things. :D

Good news on the resolution Lou. Makes me feel a lot better as I contemplate boosting this stock engine. Good to know it can take a pounding and keep going!

Before I saw the last post I was going to chime in that we had the same results on the kid's (Dominic) Neon after we rebuilt it. Smoke, kickback, uneven compression, running hot. Turned out to be a busted block the machine shop missed. Kickback was actually water in the cylinders.

Glad that was not the case with the Dart!!

Yep, big relief. Not that I don't have 2 engines laying around I could drop in, but it would have set me back getting the '64 Dart going again.

Been driving the car the last few days and it just drives like a dream.

While I was fiddling and puzzling, I realized that I had two small boost leaks built into my throttle body - some little 10mm hole in the TB above the throttle blade that was just open to atmosphere, and I had run my breather back into the TB through another hole. Basically, I had two leaks to the outside from the boost tract. I am now getting 11-11.5 psi max boost (by Megasquirt MAP reading), and the boost does seem to come up faster, although not hugely faster.

Sometimes it's nice to give everything a critical look once in a while...

I am ordering an AEM methanol/water injection system...

Drop in bigger injectors and run methanol.......

This is strictly a daily/utility driver build, so gas is the fuel. That is, I prioritize driving this car anywhere at the drop of a hat (yes, Maine or CA included). Goal is 350-400 crank HP on pump premium, long term durability, and hopefully 25 MPG...

I have no doubt you will do it Lou. :D

Zilla, Lou's problem is that he also drives 75-80 MPH most of the time. We followed him to Elk Creek in a huge down pour and he only slowed to 65-70 because we had to. We couldn't see anything! :D :D

Lou, I'm really glad you got the car straightened out. That engine kickback really sounded bad when I was there the other week. I was worried that something major was wrong the way it was running/smoking. Glad it was simple!

Slantkota is working out great for pulling my trailer and running deliveries. I plan to race it at the slant six races, but it does great as a delivery truck too. With all that torque it pulls 100% better than the ford ranger I used before. Thanks for hooking me up!

Yep, I'm very glad too. Now I need to cool that intake charge to keep the motor alive.

Glad the Slantkota is working well for you, Ryan! It has perfect pullin' characteristics, IMHO. I am really glad someone is using it more regularly too.

Best, Lou

I have a Ford Ranger, also. In my opinion, Ford has a lot of "Brass" calling that toy a truck.

Happy ending for sure. I was following this, and worried for you man. It is nice when the fixes end up being some little things like that.

Can you tell a little bit about the TPS failure. Symptoms, and diagnosis? Thanks.

Sam
