I'm tearing down this rebuilt motor I got last Sunday this week. I'll probably need to address the head stud pretty soon. So that we are not all bugging Sam calling about the same thing who wants to pursue this issue? I have a friend that works for ARP who was at PRI and I could ask him. I just don't want to step on someone elses efforts.
Sinse this is your thread, you have a friend that works at ARP, and it looks like you have the imediate need, why don't you take point. Then you could post the info you get.
I haven't had an aluminum engine in about 10 years, and will probably never have another one. I was just trying to help out since I was at the show.

Will do then. I'll keep everyone posted on what I find out. I may be able to go through my buddies warehouse and get the items at jobber price. I just need a good part number. Since we have a starting number that Doug gave us of AP3.300-1lb that's a start.

Actually, there is a question if that is an accurate part number. It was not from Doug. Look at the link I posted, it has the dimensions.

Thanks Charlie, saw that. Just text'd my friend at ARP. He's talking with Sam to get the part number, cost etc. He's getting off early today since he spent all week at PRI. Hopefully I'll have the info by tomorrow.

So far this is where we are at.

AP6.000-1LB

1" of thread at each end. Has a full diameter in the center (.436)

AP6.0001-1LGB

Has 1" at the top threads

Has 1.75" threads on the bottom with a .350 bottoming nose. Some drilling will have to be done.

Stud has a shank of .409

He's checking the AP6.000-1SB. The AP5.600-1SD has only .750 of course thread with a .436 shank

I should note that Milodon has a bolt that is closer to the length that is needed and it sells in a 4 pack.

It's looking like the AP6.000-1LB is the stud to go with. Since I'll be putting together my shortblock soon I'll go ahead and order one of each and do some mock up.

Sounds like a good start. I might take the 6" one with 1.75" coarse thread and just not run it in all the way, or cut it off 0.3".

Ordered one bolt this afternoon, should have it by next week. I have a spare head I can use to mock up and see how much thread I'll have to torque down. If it looks like it will work I'll order 13 more along with nuts and washers. My next challange is finding an early head. If I can then it's going to have to be a later head. If I'm not mistaken it's an issue with the dowel and centering the head when using a later head on the aluminum block. Correct me if I'm wrong.
