Bruce- thanks for reminding me, not but 2 hours later I was driving my moms car and almost got backed into, its a very unlucky day for me.

Richard- Yes I am very fortunate that it didn't turn into a big mess, luckily I live in a small enough community that everyone knows me and my car and they all stopped to make sure I got out alright and asked if I needed help.

Hopefully I get the verdict on this car by Monday and I can start beating out dents and maybe getting it back to where it was. It's a long road to recovery for my car, thankfully not for me.

Post subject:  one more picture for now

this is in the auto body shop's yard, you can kinda see how the bumper is pushed up and the header panel is pushed down, I'm still surprised I didn't bust a single light or glass. You can see my brother's little hatchback on the left of the picture, I was much more fortunate then him. I'll get some better pictures up later.

well, yesterday I was very bummed that this happened, it was very unfortunate. But today I have this feeling of excitement (and neck and back pain), its like doing it all over again and I know its going to be just as fun as the first time, but I might tweak a couple things this time that I wanted to do last time but didn't (1970-72 front clip, hood scoop?) I am going to hopefully get good news back from the body shop and then get to fixing it, I'm going to drive it while I fix it though. I am going to pull the quarter out with my truck (a little back woods, but it works) and get it back to the point where the door will open and close, I cant get around the passenger door being tweaked the way it is, it has a ~15* roll to it from bottom corner to top corner, the fender may be salvageable, The roof is going to take the most of my time, right where the back window is it is creased in the direction of the front of the car so I am going to spend a lot of time with a reverse hammer and body hammers to get that out of it. I am going with the sublime green paint again (2 stage PPG). I am hoping this turns out as good or better than the first time, I'll keep this thread updated on the rebirth of this car. Any opinions or ideas will be greatly appreciated on this project.

Thanks for the support, you guys are awesome,
Seth

Found a good quarter and roof so lucky my step dad (who helped with the first painting) is a great body guy, we are still pulling the old quarter out and then cutting the old quarter out and the roof from about 2" in from the back window frame to the A pillars and welding in new panels, hoping it all goes smooth.

Any chance I can convince you to get a little creative?

Just a thought. Since you are basically rebuilding from the ground up anyway, now is a great opportunity to do some customizing.

Reed, I really dig the second one, but I don't think its right for a swinger, too boxy, I think a more upright piece of glass on a duster or sport with it recessed would look more fitting with the stock body lines. I'm considering the coronet side scoops and contouring them to the Dart and actually making them functional to cool the rear brakes and doing a similar system up front, still kinda on the fence about it, not sure how it would look.

I probably wont do the side scoops, but I will most likely do the brake coolers in the front, I'm also doing a sway bar, lowering the car and putting some lower profile tires on it along with other suspension goodies to make sure it handles better and try and help prevent this from happening again.

I really like the 70-72 front clip idea. Better looks and less weight.

He was on the way to his friend's house the night before thanksgiving 2007 and he just got off college on break and needed a book for his engineering class. He was driving down a highway that has trees 10 feet off the road. The roads were dry exept for the one line of black ice where the water runs over the road and freezes, it's a notorious stretch of road. Anyway, hit that going between 40-50mph and just spun around about 180 and took a couple trees to the driver side, the fatal one being right in the center of the driver door. He was pronounced DOA by the first responders. The car is so bad that it literally is a C and the car was bent up into a u also by the force of impact, and at the yard isn't even sitting on the back wheels and the driver seat is where the center console was and the entire dash and pedal assembly shifted in the car. These "EG" honda hatches (92-95) are notorious for poor crash tests.

Well, I got a spot cleaned out for the car, it has ample space and tools to do the work, its outside my stepdad's wood working shop, so I have air, welder, plasma torch, grinders. Anything I'll need to do the work except for a paint booth, which is 30 feet away at a body shop, I have to talk to them about renting it out for a day or two to do the painting.

To be continued,
Seth

Well today I'm going to hopefully see my car for the first time since the accident. I'm going to stop by the body shop and change the bent wheel so it can get on the frame rack and have it checked out for structural soundness.
