miami..you mean tampa? ![]() As said, siping is basically cutting the tread laterally about every 1/4-1/2" about 1/2-3/4 of the tread depth. Effectively it reduces the tread block size, creates more biting edges, and allows the tread to "crawl" along the road rather than a large block slipping along the surface (which is why siping a tire makes it last longer--as long as you dont drive gravel roads too often) -Aaron |

As for getting good gas mieage; I averaged 17 MPG while putting 100,000 miles on my '86 D150, long box, 4sp OD. This was after I bought it with 105K. It had 3.55 axel with 215 tires. I ran MP ignition with orange box, better ignition cables, homemade splitfire plugs @ .040 ( computer unplugged thanks to factory service manual ). No muffler needed with the two inline cats. This was year round driving in Kansas and Northern Iowa. If you have a garage, don't bother to warmup in winter; slant motor doesn't care. With the 4sp OD you can lug the Hell out of it; down to 25 to 35 mph in OD as long as you're not pulling a load or up hill. I would caution against "Slick Fiftey" in the manual 4sp overdrives. Mine got harder to shift and way NOISY. The only thing that parked this hard working truck was 1.) syncros dead in tranny 2.) two cylinders low on leak down test 3.) rear main leaf spring broken 4.) box rusted so bad, I might loose anything I put in it. |
