A way around the 2 converter problem is to have the 3-way converter up front, and a hollowed out converter in the rear so it looks like you have 2 converters.
Other way around -- put the 3-way converter in the aft location and hollow out the front converter (just off the exhaust manifold). This way less heat in the engine bay for (much) better driveability.

You can even make an exhaust resonator out of the rear one by drilling some holes in a section of exhaust pipe and shoving it down the middle of the hollow converter
I don't think this would do anything useful, up at the front of the exhaust system. I do think it would increase exhaust turbulence and therefore increase restriction.

Post subject:  No power update conclusion

It's been almost a year from my last post. Oh well. I had my catalytic converters replaced along with the muffler. The truck sounds cool, but still no power. Finally after the memory of that cost abated, I took my Dodge to Ca. Carb. They are supposed to know something of the lean burn system, which was suspect in my mind. After describing my no power problem to the apt owner he said it sounds like a fuel delivery issue. Slant Six Dan mentioned that earlier. I left my truck with him. Sometime later he called to say the truck is ready for pickup. When I arrived at his shop he related to me how he drove it on the freeway and experienced my complaint. He then showed me an old piece of ten inch rubber fuel line that was located on the passenger side of the gas tank that connects to the metal tubing running up to the fuel pump. The original rubber was sucking air through the many cracks in it along with gas. The old Dodge runs fine now. In my defense I did replace the fuel pump and fuel filter! So long to that new light Dodge truck diesel.
