I wish I could attend this year, but the fund$ just aren't there to travel.

I've good friends that reside in the Ogden area & I usually stay w/ them.

Granted it's not a SL6, but keep your eyes open for a '34 Ford Roadster that sports a 494 blown Keith Black Hemi. It's black in color & is #911.

They're good peeps & are based close to where the Pines that post here on this forum live.

Currently the #911 is the World's fastest highboy roadster @ 304.651 mph. *wink*

Check the Davidson's web site for more info on their business/cars, if you'd like, the addy is near my sig.

Take lots o pics and please share here.

I was going to try to go there today, but Yellowstone called to me for a 2nd day of hiking. I'll get there Monday sometime, and hopefully they'll have an intact car and maybe a record by then.

In Missoula, MT now, heading to Woodburn in the mornin.

Lou

Just an FYI that I talked with Dema Elgin, of Elgin Cams and he is on his way out to Speed Week.
I told him to keep an eye out for the Slant cars so don't be surprised if he finds you.

Lou,

I was searching for results, but couldn't find anything.

I tried again and found a down run with a 1/4 mile speed of 111.920 and nothing more.

Hi all,

Yeah, this was a "building year" for Bob and the 170 Barracuda. By the time I got there on Monday afternoon, the motor was toast. They did pass tech, and made their "rookie runs" successfully around 100 MPH. It was great for me to meet Bob and Vic and see their efforts on the car. I spoke for several hours with them Monday aft/eve and Tues morning before they headed back to Seattle. Lots to think about and do for next year.

On their first real run, the car lost power after about 1.5 miles (of 3 mi course) and it had low or zero compression on 3-4 cylinders. I could not convince them to pull the head, and it seemed unlikely to have done any good - piston or ring failure almost certainly.

Bob and co are committed to running next year, and they made the significant leaps of getting the car through tech and getting Bob certified to run. Engine development will follow.

The car looks great, and should be a contender for next year. I believe the Karmann Ghia in this class ran in the mid-high 130s for the record.

I am somewhat tantalized by this whole Salt racing thing. I helped some friends of Mark Etheridge's (and new friends of mine - Gib and Bob) run their vehicles. Gib set at least one record in FCBGALT (79 Monza with 2.3L Ford turbo motor - 126 MPH), and was on his way to another (FCBFALT - 135 MPH?) when I left Thurs midday. Coincidentally, these records would work well for (and could be beat by) a boosted 170 A-body.

In the end, I had a blast, it was amazing to have Guzzi Mark and his buddies there, and to get to help them in their efforts. The variety of cars and people there was extremely cool.

Another note is that the Blowfish Cuda spun 4 times and did not break records this time (it has at least 4). A production body twin turbo hemi 69 Daytona ran 289 MPH and they were shooting for 300 when I left. They set their class record up to 277 from 256. Very cool car. Got to see some 450+ MPH streamliners run - whew.

Cheers,

Lou

That's a bummer on the engine. I set it up with generous ring end-gaps so the rings wouldn't butt together if the engine got hot. My plan was to get the car on a chassis dyno before towing to Bonneville, but that was before I had to abandon the project of course.

We were discussing that, but who knows until they tear it down. They also planned for dyno runs, but the cam problem chopped time too short. I'm sure we'll hear more fairly soon.
