IIRC, using stainless gives off hexavalent chromium...think Erin Brockovich...

The_engineers - Yeah, I've been working at an electroplating firm and just learnt that last week... (I'm getting out of this job). For chromium 6 you want an appropriate vapour mask.

Also Hydrochloric acid is great for de-rusting anything, it's what I use at this job. Every now and again something is left in too long like a scuff plate and it turns to paper - not sure if it's something you can get hold of easily.

Cheers.

One of the up-sides to electrolysis is that you can dump the water when you're done...it's not toxic and nothing more than iron rich...

What do you do with HCL when you're done?

A lot of these are catch-up, but I'm getting it all out there.

In July, my wife and I went to the Goodguys show in Des Moines. One of the things we really liked were some LED side markers that we found. With the hole the factory used for mounting the OEM turns, I decided it'd be easier to put in a patch panel to provide the 3/4" mounting holes.

This last pic was taken right after I welded it in and right before I realized how badly I warped the body line.

I ended up having to cut the bottom of the patch free and fix the body line before slowly welding everything back together.

I dread bodywork, but I keep going. Eventually I will learn to slow down. I've got a good friend who runs a respected shop here locally. I ask for advice...he laughs and shares the fixes. He'll probably get the final and the shoot, but I want to know I did everything I could and farmed out as little as possible.

This is the worst of the interior, the driver's seat. The wife found a place that will do custom material, so she's now trying to talk me in to a hot pink, paisley Mod Top tribute for inserts...
