I am not overly familiar with the specifics, but I believe Feather Dusters and Dart Lites had aluminum bumper brackets and aluminum support structures for the hood and trunk lid. DusterIdiot knows these cars MUCH better than I do. I see people looking for the Feather Duster bits quite a bit.

Here is another idea- emblems. Licensing the exact emblems from Chrysler might be expensive, but I know that the 77-80 "Street Van" emblems go for over $500 a pair (some times much higher) when they come up for auction. I know that there is a huge market for at least the "Street Van" emblem and if an affordable reproduction could be made it would be a hot seller (at least amongst the vanning crowd).

You could aslo get ambitious and cast a whole new aluminum block slant and matching cylinder head! Use modern technology and casting techniques.

Incorporating and doing an IPO of shares would definitely require a lawyer, but not me! I do criminal law and wouldn't have a clue about how to go about setting up a company and issuing stock.

A stock parts using aluminum head.....maybe just closed chambered.But so all stock parts will interchange, and race head parts will get swapped!
I am also inline for a 2 piece timing chain cover!!
Another big thing I have been thinking about, and actually have aluminum intake flanges made for is a - aluminum intake with a mod man intake type topper on it.So you could go with a 2 bbl, 4 bbl, 2x4, and 3x2!!
Just my thoughts....

Both Short and Long Ram FI intakes with tubular plenum and forward facing throttle body.
1"? Carb base plate/plenum box that has hot water "flow around" provision for arctic service with headers.
Cross-Flow cyl head that uses common rockers etc (dream-town).
A "CNC DUDE" valve cover with crazy 6" tall fins :D

The hood and trunk webbing is die formed aluminum, so not a CNC item, this would take a sheet metal company some time to make and the price for weight savings would best be served getting a fiberglass or carbon fiber hood.

Same with the bumper reinforcements that are cast aluminum pieces...you can technically make a sheetmetal reinforcement out of T-6061 .063/.080 on the power brake, TIG in the gussets, but...it would save even more weight if the duster owner did the following:

Pull the stock Iron bumper reinforcement, pull the 1974-1976 bumper shocks. Install the 1973-1974 brackets and bolt the bumper skin back in place.

If using a fiberglass bumper then pulling the bumper shocks and installing a set of aluminum solid tube replacements using T-6061 .080 aluminum would save another 40-50 lbs over stock.

Use KickStarter to fund your project. It's a great way to raise money for a specific project. Usually the people who contribute get the first batch that comes off the line.

Using KickStarter will let you sort out the "that would be cool (but I'll never actually pay for one)" projects from the "If you make it, I'll buy it!" projects.

If product "x" doesn't garner enough interest for you to make a profit, then the people who committed to having it made simply get their money back... and you haven't lost anything, either.

Lou and others, I definately will make plans to be at the banquet again this year. Many good ideas have already been given, and im sure many others will come out in discussion then as well.

Im not opposed to casting a cylinder head, as I mentioned earlier on, I have patterns to make a 4 and 6 cylinder head already for another brand, so altering these existing patterns to create another one for the Slant is much easier than starting from scratch. And I have already been thinking of putting it on the to do list.

Interesting.

Getting products from AutoCad to customer is a huge undertaking.

Sometimes the "intellectual property" side of the endeavour swallows up almost all the time and money.

Fractional ownership issues would swallow up the rest.

The timelines on this stuff are exceedingly long. I know we test any new products for 5 years before a general public release. A fast remake of product takes at least 6 months.

That being said : Two piece timing chain cover followed 3 months later by by the serpentine damper pulley.

Another "niche market" item might be an intake for two or three side-draught webers or one-barrels for the open engine hot rod guys.

I am sure you are way ahead of us on this stuff Scott, but I can't see producing stuff that already has a couple manufacturer's making the same thing. Producing things that will sell and that no one else makes should make you some money.

The original is POS plastic piece (as are the replacements)

An oil cleaning centrifuge. I don't like to use synthetic oil for its rated lifetime as motor oil begins to look dirty. When you clean oil with a high speed centrifuge and add a little fresh oil now and then, then I might use the best quality oils.

Tell us more about your foundry? What are its capabilities?

Well, the possibilities are endless, even non-auto related items are sure open for discussion.

Tim, as far as the capability of the foundry goes, its endless. I do need to make some larger Cope and Drag boxes, these are the 4 sided boxes that you place the pattern into and fill with sand. I am going to make ones that can accomodate parts such as intakes, valve covers, etc... The furnace can hold crucibles up to and exceeding 70 lbs, of molten aluminum, so cylinder heads for sure can be poured, and perhaps a block can be with a larger crucible capacity. Also, since I am likely not going to be able to test and evaluate each and every new product that I make, I hate to have to burden you guys with this task of testing them for me, but if it isn't too much trouble, do you think you could give me a hand in doing this :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: .

I understand that ordinary steel rocker arms are unavailable as new, but also that the aluminum arms so far have had a questionable reputation.

How about HD aluminum adjustable rocker arms plus new steel rocker shaft for daily drivers, with exact lengths in 2-3 different ratios? The best would be a version good enough for racing too, but there could also be a dedicated one.

Well, in the last year, I have been more than blessed myself with abundant returns of prosperity, so I can only pass it on to others. It just wouldn't be right to hoard it all to myself. Maybe, with what I can offer in the way of products with my foundry, it will help some of ya'll take your projects to a level you might not have been able to otherwise.
