ok. problem (half) solved.

I had 2 ground-outs.

1 in the engine harness at the ESA

the other a 3 amp internal short in the stereo (would not blow the 5amp fuse)

I ordered the rest of my HEI stuff. That, and the paring down of the wiring harness will eliminate whatever is going on in the ESA.

In the short term, the stereo is out and I just unplug the offending ESA connector when I park for more than 10 min.

Thanks for all the replies.

Pardon me for not knowing, and not finding it if stated above, but what is an ESA?

Thanks for asking Sam.

I for one suck at acronyms particularly it refers to a localisom or lesser known slang… Not much imagination left in my old head I guess.

When writing I always spell out the full name of part or whatever, and occasionally reference an acronym until dear reader easily latches onto it. Mostly I just write the full name into prose as it flows easer to the eye when reading; well to my eye anyway.

IIRC Electronic Spark Advance, newer term for Lean Burn. Mopar tried to rename it but it was the same deal.
