Post subject:	Samoa + Redding Make Up Results
We have a new points leader! Andrew Howard won both Samoa races and two rounds in the Redding make up race to take the lead from East Coaster Ron Hamby. Andrew has now won rounds at 5 races. He can still improve his standing throughout the rest of the season by replacing his first Redding and Woodburn races (where he won 1 round each) with races where he wins 2 or more rounds. I've heard that Lou Madsen was there to race, but the Killer Bees didn't give him any points and now he's MIA! (I think they kidnapped him and plan to use his master mind for world Slant 6 domination... Lou may actually have some points to add, so stand by for another update. ) - He won a round on Sunday and is now #2 in points. With the three Killer Bees races this weekend, the leader board has a lot of red up top again. The racing action heads back to the East Coasters for the Knoxville race 26-27 July. This race has had a fairly small car count in recent years, but look for Ron Hamby to try and take back that number 1 spot from Andrew Howard ! But wait!! The Killer Bees will also be racing at Medford that same weekend followed by another Woodburn race in mid August before racing returns to the East Coast at Bristol at the end of August... This weekend we've got races on both sides of the Mississippi! It looks like most of the top points earners from the Killer Bees will be at the Medford race (with the unfortunate exception of PJ who kicked a rod out the side of the block at Samoa ) Over on the East Coast Ron Hamby is hoping for the best running his back up engine at Knoxville. It performed well for the Dale Rose Memorial races last month, but he has had to pull the head back off and is hoping his head gasket stays sealed for Knoxville... And hoping for a 4 round race... (Knoxville car count has been a little low in recent years ) Lou Madsen hasn't yet stated his intentions to race at Knoxville... Neither have Brian Mimken or Greg Ondayko... Rob Simmons won't be there. His son is swimming in the Kentucky State Championships that weekend. So,... The smart money would say that a Killer Bee will be on top of the points ladder after this weekend... With the rule change to allow unlimited attendance points this year and the aggressive calendar for the Killer Bees... My prediction that the Traveling Trophy would make it's way back East this year may not come to fruition... We'll see! The season still has quite a few races to be run! The East/West battle between Knoxville and Medford is concluded and Killer Bee Andrew Howard stayed at the top of the leader board. He is just 15 points ahead of three time National Champion Ron Hamby. Andrew won three rounds over the weekend while Ron won the four rounds at Knoxville on Friday, but got rained out on Saturday. Day two of the Knoxville race will be re-scheduled for a later date. Andrew has now won rounds at seven races, so he gives up his two lowest races for a total of 20 points deducted. (Rules for this season = Best 5 races and Unlimited attendance points) All other racers have won rounds at 5 events or less, so no points deducted as of yet. Andrew has several more chances this season to replace his lowest (1 and 2 round) races with higher round wins. CJ Stoakes won five rounds over the weekend to climb into the third seat on the leader board Our Rookie count went up to 11 for the season with Alanna Hargis and Jason Sweet racing at Knoxville. To try and help avoid confusion on the "Top 5" rule and why points are deducted, here is what I hope is a better explanation: Andrew Howard has attended 9 races so far this season. Redding 1...................15 Redding 2 Rain Out.......5 Woodburn 1................15 Woodburn 2 Rain Out....5 Redding 2 Make Up......25 Samoa 1.....................45 Samoa 2.....................45 Medford 1...................25 Medford 2...................15 Total.........................195 Over 5 (-)...................20 Sub Total...................175 Rules for this season allow his Best 5 races and Unlimited attendance points. Therefore, since he has won rounds at 7 races, we take his "Best 5" and remove only the "Round Wins" from his two lowest races (Bold and Underlined above). That deducts round wins from Redding 1 and Woodburn 1 races for a total of 20 points deducted. That gives him his new Sub Total of 175. As Andrew continues to race the rest of the season, he will continue to earn the 5 attendance points. If he wins 2 rounds at his next race, he can replace his Medford 2 race (Bold and Red above) with his new 2 round race to increase his season total by 10 points... (Plus the Unlimited attendance points ) Clear as mud?

Killer Bee Andrew Howard extended his lead at Woodburn this weekend by replacing a "one rounder" with a "two rounder" and adding 10 more attendance points. Andrew won three rounds over the weekend (2 on Saturday and 1 on Sunday). In fact, he has won at least one round in every single race he has entered this season! Now that he has won rounds at nine races, he gives up his four lowest races for a total of 40 points deducted. (Rules for this season = Best 5 races and Unlimited attendance points) All other racers have won rounds at 5 events or less, so no points deducted as of yet. CJ Stoakes didn't win any rounds over the weekend, but maintained his third seat on the leader board. Mike Bjerklund won 5 rounds to climb up to the #4 seat with 125 points. No new Rookies this weekend, just 7 seasoned racers having a good time. East Coast points leader Ron Hamby was not able to make any ground in his quest to take the #1 spot this weekend at Bristol. He went out first round on Friday against Brian Mimken. On Saturday the head gasket that he was worried about at Knoxville last month let go in his last qualifying pass. Lou Madsen won a round on Saturday to take back the #4 spot from Killer Bee Mike Bjerklund. The "Old Fox" Meril Bruner jumped way up to the #6 spot with Runner Up finishes both days. Brian Mimken, Rodney Hargis and Gary Bruner all climbed the leader board by winning multiple rounds this weekend as well. We did have two Rookies at Bristol, bringing our Rookie count for 2013 up to a "Baker's Dozen" of 13. Mike Andreas and Sam Daugherty were at Bristol. Both making debuts with their long term early Barracuda projects. Mike has raced with us before with this being his last year to compete for Rookie honors. Sam has attended the year end awards banquet at Pigeon Forge, TN the last several years. Check out the Bristol thread in the Event Calendar section to see more details. Sorry for the delay. Andrew Howard increased his lead by winning at Sacramento. He replaced a 2 round race with a 4 round race, increasing his round win points by another 20. By winning on Saturday and winning a round on Sunday, he continues to have a perfect record of winning at least one round at every race this season! He has won at so many races (11 as of this posting) that he has had to give up points at more races than most other people have even attended! He has now given up a total of 70 points for a nice season total thus far of... 225! We also added another Rookie for the season. New Rookie Leader! Rusty Heisten towed the Team Green Lancer 11 hours from Missouri with Mark Goodman! He was able to take back the lead for Rookie of the Year before Mark broke something in the driveline in his Grudge Match against Meril Bruner. Ron Hamby blew the engine in his Dart at the Friday night Test & Tune. He tried his best to get familiar enough with the GodsRods Duster II to win a few rounds in his quest to win the National Championship for a fourth year. Unfortunately, he was only able to put a few points on the board and remains in the #2 spot. He has now won rounds at 6 races and gives up 10 points. Rodney Hargis, Meril Bruner and Brian Mimken all jumped a few spots and now fall in line right behind Ron in the 3rd through 5th spots. Meril gives up 10 points because he has won rounds at 6 races. Lukus Bruner won on Saturday and now sits in the #10 seat. That makes 6 of the Top 10 East Coasters. We had a total of 4 Rookies racing with us at Clay City! The 2 new names added to the roster are John "DadTruck" Metelko and Rob "Brother to Cookie" Venable. John brought his freshly restored '87 D100 and Rob raced GodsRods Duster II. That brings our Rookie count for 2013 up to an impressive 16! The Woodburn Make Up race was going to be held this weekend, but it got rained out again... What do the rules say about "double rainouts"...? Thanks for the update Rob! It is nice to see that Ron is still within striking distance if he comes to Mason Dixon for the last 2 races of the year. Did he have a spare motor? Or is he done for the season? Rick

He's debating on whether to thrash on another engine or not. I believe he has been mixing and matching parts between 2-3 engines this season just to keep things going. He still has a shot at Mason-Dixon depending on how Andrew does this weekend. Ron will pretty much have to clean house at Mason-Dixon to make it happen. Right now Andrew has 65 attendance points to Ron's 50. For round wins Andrew has three 40s and two 20s. Ron has three 40s and two 10s. That looks like only two rounds difference, but when you factor in those additional 15 attendance points it makes it more like four rounds that Ron will have to overcome. Also, Ron only has two more races and Andrew potentially has three with the two-time rained out Woodburn race happening at the race this weekend. Those unlimited attendance points appear to be a factor this year. Maybe something you'll need to talk about at the banquets this year.

We have a new Rookie Leader... again! Mr. Performance Index and Three Time National Champion Glen Terry is Baaaack! Rookie Curtis Prater took the lead from Rusty Heisten by earning 15 more attendance points this weekend. Both racers have won two rounds this season. CJ Stoakes was runner up on Sunday to increase his round win points in addition to the 15 attendance points this weekend, placing him in the #5 spot just behind three time National Champion Glen Terry. CJ gives up 30 points, having won rounds at eight races this season. He finishes the season with two 3 round races, three 2 round races and 60 attendance points. Three time National Champion Glen Terry showed up at Redding and absolutely cleaned house by winning all three races! Glen was our National Champion three years in a row in 2007-2009. He hasn't raced with us since 2010 and was said to have gone on to other things... It's good to have Mr. Terry racing with us again. We had two other former Slant 6 racers make a return at Redding. Roy Murray (2008-2010) and Scott Silkwood (2007-2008) also came back to the fold this weekend. The Woodburn Make Up race was held this weekend, giving the Killer Bees another three race weekend to finish up their season. There's just one race weekend remaining with the two day race at Mason-Dixon Raceway in Hagerstown, MD. It looks like three time National Champion Ron Hamby is the only East Coaster with a chance of bringing the Traveling Trophy back East of the Mississippi this year. Ron will have to win four rounds one day and three the other to make it happen. If he wins three and three in the projected four round races he will tie Andrew Howard in points, but come up just a tad shy on his Performance Index with a 0.4884 to Andrew's season final of 0.5306. Andrew finished his season with 240 points, having won rounds at 13 of 14 races with two rain outs! He attended every Killer Bees race with the exception of Las Vegas and MoKan at the beginning of the season. He gave up a total of 100 points and finishes the season with three 4 round races, two 2 round races and a whopping 80 attendance points. Will Ron Hamby be able to put another engine together in time and win enough rounds at Mason-Dixon to win his fourth National Championship? Or will points leader Andrew Howard remain at the top where he has held residence most of the season and be our 2013 National Champion? Stay tuned right here and find out in two weeks!
