Don't ask them to do something you can't do yourself?...and Joker, to confirm the rear diff...get your butt under the rear bumper like the rest of us and count how many bolts are in the rear cover of the diff... you won't ever get to know what the car is all about and how to work on it without getting in/under/around it and taking notes and pics so you can determine the best approach. (Being a boss myself I follow a golden rule with my subordinates- Don't ask them to do something you can't do yourself. You get way more respect for that attitude). Also we have posted a lot of information about upgrades, research your car, look at the build matrix and axle/brake/suspension upgrades...then make a plan (the mechanic being the guy knowing more about what you are asking may need lots of $$$ to do what you propose as parts may not be easy to get for the upgrade...) -D.Idiot If I can do it myself ,I would. besides they will be paid well.no "respect" required. I learned a long time ago, Some things are best done by the experienced. AGAIN. I simply want to gather information to aid in my decsion process and so that I will not get ripped off , and or do something wrong. This is the information highway,right? If I choose not to actually do the work am I an outcast? Thanks for the info you did give me. peace. |

Your fine JokerRides. Looks like those involved are simmering down. Those that are hands on got a little fidgety is all. Your welcome here, whatever your ownership/modification paradigm might be. There are a lot of ways to work with classic cars. Yours is as honorable as the guys that crawl underneath and build them. It's all about keeping this part of our heritage alive and well. This is a community of people that love these cars, or the engine for whatever reason. I'd like to stress the word community. We aren't mainstream by any stretch of the imagination. Many here are very good at getting these cars to do what they want. Be it economy, performance, or some mix of the two. Some make them real pretty, some make them go fast, and some do both. Take a deep breath. That's for all involved. We are here to support each other in our slant six endeavors. CJ |

D.I. must be prior service. (drill instructor) -D.Idiot Quick search on google has a pic of the diff rear ends from the rear. That way you can look at it and then the rear and figure out what it is. Kind of like putting the square block in the square hole in preschool. As said there is normally a tag attached and if not then find the plate with all the codes stamped in it and have it decoded. That way when you do start talking of the car then you know what you have. Like reciting a brouchure. Another side note that wasnt stated or maybe I missed, is what trans you plan to run. 904/833 etc. as for the rest like "what is limited slip" and those, simple google will work wonders for those. Even places like "how stuff works" will show an animation for people who prefer to learn by pics/vids. Good luck Pohlman |
