I too have run the Petronix Igniter 1 with no problems for years. So I tried a Igniter 2. Nothing but problems. I did find that you need a specific coil ohms for the 2 that may have been my problem all along. Didn't test as the owner just went and put the points back in. Never ran a 3 yet. I agree with the others that the 4 pin is the way to go. along with a good coil. I had a MSD 6A given to me that sat on the shelf for some time. My 63 170 Valiant always had the start/stall,start/stall every morning and I was always playing with the carb and choke to get rid of the anoyance. This persisted even with a fresh tune up. So I thought what the heck, lets hook up the MSD to the stock points ignition.Cured the morning sickness, and idle was much smoother. Not saying to run out and buy a MSD but just wanted to pass the info along. |

In my 83 I am running a stock 74 doorman electronic distributor tied into a gm 4 pin hei module and a chevette coil mounted on a alumimin plate on the passengers fender well with a tuperware sandwich tub over the top of the module to keep the weather out of it. Works like a dream for the last 2 1/2 years and for a oil burning engine -have not fould out the ngks in 8,000 miles- just look like I am running leaded gas.. ![]() ![]() |
