I have never had a problem using the metal filters I can buy over the counter at Napa.

Ted! Your transmission counterweight is on upside down. The cup goes around the tailshaft.

Reed,

No room........take a closer look.
I had a new mounting bracket built to drop it down about 2" to clear the emergency brake cables. They were in the way of this 1980's Dodge Aspen transmission set up. My original 74 didn't have one. So it was simpler to bolt it back on upside down, more surface area against the new bracket, shorter bolts and a little more cooling affect, like a heat sink.

ABC in Tacoma rebuilt the 1980 904 with a shift kit and all original Bendix parts upgraded so I can race it when my good engine goes back in.
You can see the darkend areas under the car when the front pump in the old tranny let loose blew oil every where. I had to drive it about 20 miles home after it blew. Added 2 more quarts of fluid along the way home.

The barn find SL6 is originally from a 79 so it shakes a lot......cast crank is what Doc told me. That is why I put the counter weight on. Does it help? a little at various rpms........the new rubber motor mounts are too stiff and so is the new poly transmission mount. My 9.5 to 1 compression motor has a well balanced forged crank and that engine ran smooth as silk.

Wish I could find some softer spool type engine mounts.

Ah! I missed the brake cable. Hmmm. I don't see why flipping it would affect the operation of the weight. I can't say how effective they are either. I have run transmissions with and without them and never really noticed a difference. I also never noticed a difference in smoothness of running between the cast and forged crank motors, either. Maybe I am just not picky enough.

I have a couple of those weights on my workbench. I need to find a source for the rubber isolators that go around the mounting bolts. Both of my weights had those rubber isolators disintegrate from years of transmission fluid saturation.
