I pulled the steering wheel and centered it lock to lock. However, I noticed that the center link seemed to be closer to one torsion bar than the other in this centered position. I used a straight edge across my doors as my steering wheel center guide.

I turned the steering wheel to each lock position and noticed the link was hitting my Fumoto oil drain valve. To eliminate this small interference, I drained the oil and replaced the Fumoto valve with a drain plug.

Since my goal is to make the tie rods as equal in length as possible, the center link should be centered between the torsion bars when the steering wheel is centered. Using the outside of the frame rails and center link ends as my references, I centered the link so that each side was 5½". This works out to 2-7/8 turns to right lock and 2-3/4 turns to left lock (still ~5-5/8 lock to lock).

I've been trying to find the high spot in the steering gear but it doesn't always feel obvious. I think my centered steering wheel and center link now corresponds to the high spot.

It looked like I was 1 tooth off in the steering wheel splines so I took the steering wheel off again. I just noticed that there is a gap machined in the steering shaft's splines and this appears at about the 10:30 position with a centered center link. The steering wheel seems to have missing/damaged splines too (hard to tell exactly when you wear bifocals) but they're at about the 12:00 position. The steering coupler (between the shaft and the steering gear) is also angled at about 45°.

Read up on steering system master splines. I matched up the master splines in the shaft and steering wheel and put everything back together. Wide side of steering coupler is now approximately horizontal when the steering wheel is centered.
