Attendance points are not important to newbies. Rules are not important to Newbies. They are just happy to be involved. Been there. Remember that. Attendance points of large value are of importance to experienced racers that want a Championship or place standings. Now, I like what Zilla is saying about making a round to get attendance points. That has value. Back the car out of stage, not on a bye, first round, no points. Blow it up the night before playing with the street racers or running the T&T, tough. No first round, no points. Yeah, we probably have too many rules. Maybe we need to lax up on some of the others. Blow away the Nitro rule. If you get your tail in a twist, protest the non-nitro if your record is at risk, if it's Unlimited, no protests allowed. Easy! CJ |

I, too, am strongly in favor of keeping 5 pts for attendance. I know the newbies don't worry about points, but I believe this rule does/can affect whether a newbie decides to try to go to other races/events when evolving from a one-time racer to a part-time racer. Not sure I worded that coherently, but hopefully the message came thru. I think the issue about whether or not we limit attendance points, is the reality of having more races/events on one coast or the other. If racers on one coast or the other have more opportunities to gather points, than that is an inherent advantage. I would be in favor of having the overall number of possible attendance points to be equal for racers on both sides of the country. For lack of a better way to word this, let me give an example. Let's say the east coast racers have 14 individual races scheduled for a year, and the west coast racers have 10 individual races scheduled for the same year. The east coast attendance points would be limited to 10 races, the same as the west coast racers could get. This way, attendance points would not affect the national championship. But it would still allow for encouraging the part-time/newbie racers to come out to more than one race/event. Brian |

Brian & all, Just to clarify. In your example, if you have 10 races scheduled but you have 2 or 3 of them that get rained out and we reschedule them. Then would you count attendance points for all 12 or 13 races if you had attended all the races? Or is the number of 10 races that were originally scheduled a cap? I am guessing that you would count all of them, but wanted to ask for sure. Thanks, Rick |

Rick, You bring up a good point. Rainouts could be an issue in my scenario. Personally, I am at odds with the current way rainout attendance points are handled. I would like to get rid of possibly getting "double" attendance points for a race due to a rainout. If a race gets rained out, give the racers at that event attendance points. If the race gets rescheduled and one of the rainout racers shows up for the new race, he doesn't get another 5 pts. This way it would not affect the overall "capped" attendance points. Just my 2 cents, and probably not in the majority on this. Brian |

I think any race I attend I should get points. I am buying the cookies after all. The oatmeal raisin are quite expensive. If I am watching and encouraging or making a pass in a borrowed car - I am promoting our pastime. I think we should call these Poser Points. There should be some kind of plaque or trophy that will recognize the hard work of taking pics or video or ordering a cheeseburger. Complementing racers on their cars is also hard work. If it wasn't for us newbie's where else would a racer get that warm inner glow - from there wives? |

Wayne, it is time to give it up! You are not a newbie any more. You have had a car on blocks out in the front yard for at least 3 years and that disqualifies you from the title. You are now one of us and must stand up and be counted as a real racer even if none of your cars run! Rick |
