Another thought for this subject, when upgrading a bench seat car to the buckets we'll now have the ability to install a center console.

Obviously doesn't have to be a factory one, in fact there are some newer cars with some nice consoles with storage compartments, cup holders, power supplies, etc that would be pretty desirable.

Anyone have an experience/insight on adapting any particular console to an early-A?

My thought on this is if you are going to change the seats and need to repair the floor pans. Why not use the floors from the car your getting the seats from. Kill two birds with one stone. At the same time you could enlarge the trans mission tunnel to except a four speed automatic transmission.

I got the idea of this seeing the build involving a modern charger drive train and interior with a roadrunner body.

If in los angeles, I will gladly take anyones bench seat (69 - 73). I currently have buckets (97 mustang) but they're getting kinda tired.

Center consoles? If you are not going for show: I use aluminum sheet to make side and/or back extensions. Cut and bend to position the console in the position I want it. You can do a fit & fiddle with cardboard. Then cut, pop-rivet the sheet to the console structure, add a few self-tapping sheet metal screws at the lower sides into the transmission tunnel. (Check where the screws are going through before you drill.) Use matching carpet to cover the sides, and get creative with the carpet to "finish" the front edge. It ain't pretty, but it ain't ugly either. Just functional.
