Well, I'm going to take them back off in May or so. I have to assume they are done salting the roads for the year. I'm going to goop everything up w/antiseize per Dad Truck's suggestion and see what happens. Another question I have is this: The perch (not sure if that is the word) that the front eye bolt attaches to is riveted to the 'frame'--it's a unibody, so I'm not sure the word applies--has a 3/16 steel plate shaped like Texas/a bent home plate sandwiched between it and the 'frame.' On the driver side that plate is rotten. The 'perch' and 'frame' are fine. I'm entertaining grinding off/driving out the rivets, reverse-engineer a new plate by mirroring the non-rotten passenger side one, grinding off the old plate, abate all rust, paint frame, weld on the new plate, bolt on perch by cutting a hole in the floor to access interior of frame, welding the nuts to the bolts and welding a patch over the hole in the floor, abate all other rust and paint everything under the van and inside the floor hole. Should this work, or do I need to address it differently? |
