That price was with me supplying all of the hard parts, including the ring gear, pinion gear, AND carrier. I'll see if I can find a 4x4 shop still in business that will do this. It is surprisingly difficult to find a decent shop in Tacoma. Although this is a blue-collar port town, there are very few machine shops and other automotive shops around anymore, and the ones that ARE around charge sky-high prices. I am still investigating. I need to (1) verify tha tthe guy who sold the axle to me was right that the gears in my axle are 2.2:1 (b) do some more calling around to shops, and ( c) investigate the Explorer 8.8 swap a bit more. If I can get an Explorer rear axle with discs and a good ratio set up for this Duster for even half that price I was quoted, it might be my best option. |

I just realized this thread should be moved to the rear end forum. Sorry about that. I also found this writeup of a gear change on the Chrysler 8.25: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f11/gear ... -a-109859/ I might try and do this myself, after all. |
