There are a bunch of companies that make standalone controllers for various four speed computer controlled transmissions.
One that I would trust would be TCI. There will be controllers soon for the newer transmissions. That may equate to 6 or 8 speeds in hotrods soon.

ROI might be long, but if a four speed lockup is a must, do a google search and see what's available. Summit Racing lists some. The going rate for a controller is $500 and up. Depending on what your trying to do, many of the GM and Ford transmissions are covered. Adapters for the slant to GM have been explored, and someone here can steer you in the right direction for one of those.
