Well, I still have two more of the old original ones collecting dust on the shelf. I can't recall if they work or if I saved them "just because." $0 beats even $114, but if the day comes when I pull them off the shelf and they don't work, then the Remy starter it is.

Why necessarily? There is nothing such as "the Remy starter". Remy is an old-and-now-new-again name (originally Delco-Remy, GM's electrical parts subsidiary) licenced and sub-licenced and sub-sub-licenced recently to brand remanufactured parts. There is nothing particular or special about one of these starters that comes in a Remy box. Hit the wrecking yards in person or online; the starter you're looking for is the one for a 2005-2008 Dodge Ram pickup with 5.7-litre V8 engine and manual transmission (automatic is totally different and won't fit).

Ah! I was referring to the starter being discussed in this thread. Since I did not know the specific application and only knew the remanufacturer and the part number, I was calling it the "Remy starter." If it fits and works, then I don't have to have one from Remy. I might keep an eye out for one of these the next time I go junk yarding.

As an aside, I have given up using Car-part.com for yards in my area. The last three or four times I have tried to use it, the inventory of the yard did not match the inventory given on car-part. I think the yards around me signed up for the service years ago but haven't updated their inventory lately.
