That's a tough looking Dart. Thanks Just a couple short weeks left in the driving season up here and it's time to strip 'er down. I'm getting pretty excited about this project. Still looking for a two door donor car. |

Quote: For those who don't know, the Canuck version of the Valiant borrows some of the Dart stylings from the same years such as tail lights, dash sometimes and apparently B-pillar.
The '66 Canadian Valiant was a Dodge Dart through and through except for nameplates (possibly also Valiant dashboard rather than Dart type). The '65 Canadian Valiant was available in both Valiant-shaped (106" wheelbase) and Dart-shaped (111" wheelbase) versions. The '63-'64 Canadian Valiants were Darts (111" wheelbase) with Valiant front sheetmetal.

Quote: I was surprised to discover that the American built '64 wagon actually has a shorter wheelbase than the Canadian built '66 two door.
Yup, all '63-'66 wagons, no matter where built, are 106" wheelbase cars. The '66 Canadian Valiant = US Dart = 111" wheelbase.Quote: This caused a little bit of grief when it came time for rear window channel and regulator fitment but a bigger hammer always prevails.
Keen! Did you document the mods? Quote: The body lines worked out great
They certainly did! That upkick at the back of the 2-door's window not only looks terrific in its own right, but it also rationalises the equal and opposite angle at the leading edge of the rain rail above the quarter glass. Really sharp. I'm severely impressed; I have zero skill or talent in metalwork.Quote: Onto the driver's side this week and then lots of finish welding and fitment.
Might be fun to create a 3-door station wagon. One side as shown, other side with 2 doors but with the 2-door's trailing beltline upkick somehow grafted onto the 4-door's rear door…

Thanks Dan. I'll do more documentation on the driver's side but we ended up cutting out a section where the rear door latch would have been and then just bashed the inner wheel house until we had clearance. I initially thought that we would have to section in a box to allow for the window channel clearance, so I was happy that this cave man method worked. While doing my research for this build, I kept coming back to the rear window upswing detail of the Dart's and of course our Canadian Valiants. Once I got this bug in my head there was no going back and in fact, a two door post or conventional flat door frame two door conversion became out of the question. I have a really simple and stubborn mind sometimes but the recipe usually works. I'll put the rest of the updates in the gallery section where I started a build thread. |
