UPDATE: It WAS the carburetor, although not specifically the choke. Seems it was the original Nitrophyl float that was wreaking havoc on me. It's as if it expanded or became misshapen and was rubbing on the inside of the bowl and sticking!!! Not sure exactly why this happened but... Dan, if you're reading this I apologize, because one of the first things you told me to do before I installed this carburetor was to install a brass float. I didn't heed your warning at the time because the carb was brand new and I didn't want to take it apart and disturb the gaskets. Despite that, I really should have listened because something went really wrong with the Nitrophyl. Maybe they started to leak and expanded? Not sure but they were WAY TOO SNUG for the bowl. Just did a complete cleaning and rebuild of the carburetor with nice shiny brass float. Installed carb, started the car and drove right up the nearest hill to my house with the car practically ice cold. Not a stutter or stumble. The only other issue I have is that I'm not sure exactly how to adjust certain things on this model of carburetor but I'm going to post that as a new topic. THANKS FOR THE HELP!! -Matt |

Sounds like a pain in the brass; glad it's fixed. |
